kerThe Woodpecker was designed to provide the
smooth, intimate sound associated with the most sought-after (and expensive) vintage ribbon micro-phones. With its focused mid-range and outstand-ing bass response, the Woodpecker captures the essence of any recorded sound. The Woodpecker also excels at ambient recording, capturing room tone with the most intimate detail — whether for rock drums, guitars or vocals — any application where some natural space in the recording is desired. To get the most out of this, or any quality microphone, it is essential to pair it with a good microphone pre-amplifier. Most professional recordists prefer to have outboard preamps on hand, and will choose solid-state or vacuum tube models based on their unique characteristics. To maintain the integrity of your sig-nal, try using Blue’s Cranberry, Blueberry or Kiwi high-definition mic cable along with Blue’s outstanding Class-A vacuum tube mic preamp, Robbie. And, whenever possible, connect your pre’s output direct-ly to your recorder or A/D converter, bypassing the mixing board and any unnecessary components. The Woodpecker also includes a custom-designed gold-accented shockmount to isolate the transduc-er from the recording environment and reduce un-wanted low-frequency resonance or rumble.

Mou
seThe Mouse is a pressure-gradient cardi-
oid condenser microphone, employing the BLUE single-membrane, factory-tuned large diaphragm capsule. For this hand-crafted diaphragm we have selected a 6-micron my-lar film, sputtered with a mixture of pure gold and aluminum, and tensioned to our own hand-built brass backplates. Enclosed within a rotating spherical grille, the capsule can be positioned and adjusted in the smallest of spaces. This innovative design offers fine-tuning and precise placement to please the most discerning recordist, combined with an ease of use that is without equal among ei-ther vintage or contemporary microphones.

The TC Level Pilot is another one of the “innovative” products to come out of TC Elec-tronic, and the reason for ‘innovative’ in parenthesis is because, well, TC didn’t not invent the potentiometer, which is essentially what the Level Pilot is. But they did come up with the idea of making all our home-studio lives easier by creating it for us to own. That is, if we weren’t all electronics engineers that could easily make our own level-control unit with carbon, paste, and some metal, or if we didn’t own the TC Konnekt 48 that already comes with its own level control. It would be far off in saying TC Electronic created the Level Pilot after realizing how cool the remote control on the K48 is. Of course, the Level Pilot is not like the K48 remote control (if you own/have owned a K48, you’ll know why), it is just a potentiometer that has made working life alot easier. The best part of this little knob is, it works with every setup out there.
