Dear Brothers and Sisters,
If you are interested in joining a Growth Group, tonight is
the night to start! This evening is the kick-off for several Growth
Groups that will be meeting bi-monthly on Sunday evenings from
5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Everyone will eat together from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Then, all attendees will attend one of three Growth Groups. I hope
you can make it and use this opportunity to grow in Christ!
This week is the start of Pioneer Clubs. A new club has been
added for Grades 6-8. So, all children are invited to participate from
age 2 until Grade 8. Pioneer Clubs start this coming Wednesday, Sep-
tember 21, at 7:00 p.m. I hope you will be there.
We will continue with our Wednesday Family Night Dinner.
The dinner starts at 5:45 p.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m. Please sign up
in the Friendship Register if you plan to attend so that our chefs know
how much food to prepare. (You may also call the church office dur-
ing the week if you forget to sign up on Sunday.)

*The Opening Song Days of Elijah
These are the days of Elijah, declaring the word of the Lord.
And these are the days of your servant Moses,
Righteousness being restored.
And though these are days of great trials,
Of famine and darkness and sword.
Still we are the voice in the desert crying,
”Prepare ye the way of the Lord!”
Chorus
Behold he comes, riding on the clouds,
Shining like the sun at the trumpet call.
Lift your voice - It's the year of Jubilee,
And out of Zion's hill salvation comes.
And these are the days of Ezekiel,
The dry bones becoming as flesh.
And these are the days of your servant David,
Rebuilding the temple of praise.
And these are the days of the harvest,
The fields are as white in your world.
And we are the laborers in your vineyard,
Declaring the word of the Lord!
Chorus

*The Prayer of Invocation
God Cleanses Us from Our Sin
The Confession of Sin Based on Psalm 51:10-12
People: Eternal and merciful God,
you have loved us with a love beyond our understanding,
and you have set us on paths of righteousness for your
name’s sake.
Yet we have strayed from your way;
we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
through what we have done and what we have left un-
done.
As we remember the lavish gift of your grace
symbolized in baptism, O God,
we praise you and give you thanks that you forgive us yet
again.
Grant us now, we pray, the grace to die daily to sin,
and to rise daily to new life in Christ,
who lives and reigns with you,
and in whose strong name we pray. Amen.
The Assurance of Forgiveness Based on Isaiah 54:8; 43:25; 44:22
Leader: “In a surge of anger
I hid my face from you for a moment,
but with everlasting kindness
I will have compassion on you,”
says the Lord your Redeemer.
“I, even I, am he who blots out
your transgressions, for my own sake,
and remembers your sins no more.”
“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud,
your sins like the morning mist.
Return to me,
for I have redeemed you.”

Leader: For what do we pray in the fourth request?
People: In the fourth request (Forgive us our debts, as we also have
forgiven our debtors), encouraged by God’s grace, which
makes it possible for us sincerely to forgive others, we pray
that for Christ’s sake God would freely pardon all our sins.
The OT Scripture Reading Exodus 16:2-15 RE Jim Aldrich
2And the whole congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against
Moses and Aaron in the wilderness, 3and the people of Israel said to them,
"Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt,
when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have
brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hun-
ger." 4Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I am about to rain bread from
heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion
every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not. 5On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as
much as they gather daily." 6So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of
Israel, "At evening you shall know that it was the LORD who brought you
out of the land of Egypt, 7and in the morning you shall see the glory of the
LORD, because he has heard your grumbling against the LORD. For what
are we, that you grumble against us?" 8And Moses said, "When the LORD
gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full,
because the LORD has heard your grumbling that you grumble against
him— what are we? Your grumbling is not against us but against the
LORD." 9Then Moses said to Aaron, "Say to the whole congregation of the peo-
ple of Israel, 'Come near before the LORD, for he has heard your grum-
bling.'" 10And as soon as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the
people of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory
of the LORD appeared in the cloud. 11And the LORD said to Moses, 12"I
have heard the grumbling of the people of Israel. Say to them, 'At twilight
you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. Then
you shall know that I am the LORD your God.'" 13In the evening quail came up and covered the camp, and in the
morning dew lay around the camp. 14And when the dew had gone up,
there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost
on the ground. 15When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one an-

other, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to
them, "It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.”

*The Psalm Psalm 23
The NT Scripture Reading Matthew 20:1-16 RE Jim Aldrich
1"For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out
early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2After agreeing with
the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3And go-
ing out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market-
place, 4and to them he said, 'You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is
right I will give you.' 5So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour
9
and the ninth hour, he did the same. 6And about the eleventh hour he went
out and found others standing. And he said to them, 'Why do you stand
here idle all day?' 7They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said
to them, 'You go into the vineyard too.' 8And when evening came, the
owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the laborers and pay them
their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.' 9And when those hired
about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. 10Now
when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but
each of them also received a denarius. 11And on receiving it they grumbled
at the master of the house, 12saying, 'These last worked only one hour, and
you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day
and the scorching heat.' 13But he replied to one of them, 'Friend, I am do-
ing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14Take what
belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. 15Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you
begrudge my generosity?' 16So the last will be first, and the first last."

hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done,

The Scripture 1 Corinthians 8:1-13 Rev. Freddy Fritz
1Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess
knowledge." This "knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up. 2 If anyone
imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to
know. 3But if anyone loves God, he is known by God. 4Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that "an
idol has no real existence," and that "there is no God but one." 5For al-
though there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there
are many "gods" and many "lords"— 6yet for us there is one God, the Fa-
ther, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus
Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. 7However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former
association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their con-
science, being weak, is defiled. 8 Food will not commend us to God. We are
no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. 9But take care that
this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the
weak. 10For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s
temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food
offered to idols? 11And so by your knowledge this weak person is de-
stroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12Thus, sinning against your
brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against
Christ. 13Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat
meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

You’ve seen the rest, now experience the best at TBPC! We will miss last year’s
cooks who graciously served our Wednesday Night Family Dinners. Since they are
not available this year, if you have a secret desire to test your culinary skills with
affirming “judges”, we would love offer you that opportunity. Even if you don’t have
that secret desire, but want to help serve the Pioneer Club staff, choirs, families,
and others who come on Wednesday nights, please write “Chef” in the Friendship
Register and we’ll be in touch to answer your questions.

ers for the 6-8th-graders. Come and enjoy the fun games and activities designed
just for you. Spend time studying God's Word and being encouraged by your lead-
ers. Meets Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m., starting September 21.

Wednesday, September 21: Pioneer Clubs is our mid-week discipleship program for
children aged 2-13. It begins this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. with our Family Night
Kickoff Party. All Pioneer Clubs families are invited to come. You will have the
chance to register, pay a small registration fee, meet your leader, play games and

Men’s Breakfast
Saturday, September 24: All men are invited to the second Men’s Breakfast of the
year. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. outside, under the covered area at the
main entrance of the church. The cost is $8.00 (to be paid at the breakfast). The
breakfast will include fellowship with the men of TBPC, and additional food for
thought presented by Pastoral Intern James Nichols. For planning purposes, please

Great Things are happening at TBPC! Sunday, October 16: God is doing amazing things here at TBPC and we are thankful
for the blessing that God has sent us. Due to the growing number of visitors and
guests that the Lord is sending us, we are outgrowing our sanctuary space. In order
to make room, we are going to open up an Overflow area in classrooms 20 and 22
(the double classroom). There will be a video feed with sound, an usher and an
elder so that the people in the Overflow will worship simultaneously with those in
the sanctuary. This experiment will last for 13 weeks, and we hope to begin using
the Overflow by October 16. If you would be willing to volunteer to sit in the over-
flow once a month or more, please write “Overflow” in the Friendship Register. If
you have any questions, please talk to James Nichols (813-973-2484).
New Time for Sunday School and Adult CE&F
Sunday, October 2: This is the Sunday we plan to begin Sunday School and Adult
CE&F at 8:45 a.m. and conclude at 10:00 a.m. The reason for this change is to al-
low 30 minutes prior to the Worship Service for various ministries to get set-up for
the Worship Service. Any questions? Please talk to an Elder or Bob Guest.
2011 LOVE GIFT for Covenant Seminary
Sunday, October 9: This year’s LOVE GIFT for the critical ministry of Covenant
Seminary for improvements to Rayburn Chapel and the Family Nurture Community
Center. TBPC’s Pastoral Intern, James Nichols, reflects on the difference those im-
provements would have made for their family. “Living on campus provided a com-
munity of fellow students and believers who supported and encouraged each other.
I still talk to a group those guys on a regular basis. We check up on, pray for each
other, ask advice and counsel, and keep each other close. I have these relationships
because of Covenant’s encouragement and dedication to community. These men
and their families are very important to me and one of the great blessings in this
life. Your gift will help Covenant Seminary keep pace with a growing student popu-
lation by providing adequate chapel facilities and family-friendly community
spaces.” With a current TBPC membership of 200+, an average gift of $5.00 per
member would top $1,000. Just think what $10.00 per member would do! Please
pray, plan, save up and give. Please make checks out to Tampa Bay Presbyterian
Church and to write “LOVE GIFT in the memo line.
Class 101
Sunday, October 23: Are you interested in learning more about the vision and mis-
sion of TBPC? Attend Class 101. Are you interested in membership at TBPC? Attend

schools throughout Africa, Asia, and South America. Another initiative is
creation (expected launch summer 2012) of a “Center for Global Christian
