Self-cleaning strainers

Canada based Unitrade Process

Technologies Inc recently

launched its latest design of

self cleaning jet strainers for

the removal of solids from high

viscosity liquids.

Based on the company’s

well-known U&lo-Jet strainer

design, the Rotoflo-Jet has

been specifically designed to

handle applications with low

flow rates and medium to high

viscosity liquids. The strainers’

self-cleaning action is obtained

through combination of

internal flushing and a helical

rotor that continuously scrapes

the internal surface of the filter

element - controlled by a very

low RPM electric drive.

All Rotoflo- Jet strainers are

made for 3 16 stainless steel

and custom designed. They are

Filhmtion+Separation

built to operate in pressures up

to 17.5 bar and temperatures

of 112 OC.

They are designed for

vertical installation and can be

mounted parallel on manifolds

for higher flows and cascading

flushing action.

Their applications are

typically in chemical plants,

refineries, pulp and paper

plants, etc, and can be used to

filter high viscosity products

such as paints and printing inks.

Large scale melt filtration system

Building on the success of its

rotary disc filtration

technology Gneul3 GmbH of

Germany has recently launched

a fully automatic, polymer

melt filtration system

specifically for large scale

applications.

According to the company,

its latest rotary filter allows

fine filtration (down to 3 mm)

under constant processing

conditions. The system is

operated by a process control

system that ensures

stabilization of the production

process. It maintains a constant

pressure drop of < ?I 2 bar

across the filtration system,

automatically controls the

high-pressure screen cleaning

process before material

change, and displays and

records all process and system

data. The melt loss during

filter cleaning is kept to a

minimum (0.01-l%).

The main characteristic of

the patented rotary technology

is that the filter disk, which

comprises of special filter

media arranged in a radial

pattern, rotating between two

filter blocks. This provides a

good rhealogical layout that

significantly reduces the dwell

time of the polymer melt in

the system.
