Mass Capacity
Due to COVID
In accordance with changes made by St. Louis County, all Archdiocesan churches in the county will move back to the 25% capacity mandate for public Mass. For Assumption, this means we may have only 125 people in the church at this time. All in-person gatherings are suspended until fur-ther notice. For more information, go to AssumptionSTL.org/Covid. Please be extra mindful of your fellow parishioners at this time. For more information about St. Louis County coronavirus cases: go to STLCorona.com.

Second Sunday of Ordinary Time 4
Pastor’s Column Fr. Thomas Keller
Lent Lent isn’t as far off as you think. Ash Wednesday is on February 17. That’s only 4 ½ weeks away! If you have blessed palm that you would like us to burn, please return it by February 14. Palms will be burned on Shrove/Fat Tuesday. Mark your calendars—our Parish Mission will be led by retired local meteorologist Mike Roberts! Mike is a Catholic and devoted to the Divine Mercy of Jesus. During the Mission he will share his powerful personal experiences of God’s mercy. The Parish Mission will be held on Feb 22-24 and will be both in-person and virtual for those who feel safer at home. Adoration and confessions will be available from 6:30-6:55 p.m. and Mike will begin his presentation at 7 p.m. Yes!!! We plan on holding St. Louis’ favorite Fish Fry on each Friday of Lent!!! However, due to the ongoing pandemic, all meals will be takeout. More information will be coming!
Senior Ministry As a new and more contagious strain of the coronavirus is spreading in the U.S., the winter months prohibit outdoor gatherings, and we are waiting for a vaccine to be available to seniors, I have unfortunately decided to suspend our Senior Ministry activities. We are grateful to Lynn Ewy for her ministry on behalf of our seniors these last 10 months. Until we are able to resume activities, Deacon Dave will work with our senior ministry volunteers who mail our parish bulletin and send periodic online newsletters to our shut-ins. If a senior is in need of the sacraments, the priests are always available, and we can accommodate anyone who needs a ride on the Assumption Shuttle. Please contact the parish office for assistance at 314-487-7970.
Coronavirus Vaccine In the state of Missouri, priests and deacons are considered first responders because we are often called to the bedside of those who are sick or dying. Our parish clergy are in the process of receiving the two vaccine doses. Since Fr. Weber has been providing sacraments and pastoral care for the coronavirus patients at Mercy South, he was the first to receive both doses. The deacons and I have received one so far. Each of us have had different minor side effects to the vaccine. St. Louis County has online pre-registration for the vaccine on their website StlCorona.com. Check with your doctor to see if you should pre-register.
Snow Schedule In the event of a significant snowfall or any amount of ice, consider the Adoration Chapel temporarily closed and any scheduled meeting cancelled. We will send out updates via Flocknote and Facebook. All Masses will be celebrated as scheduled, but attendance online is recommended, especially if your age or health makes it unwise to drive or walk in the frozen precipitation. We will try to clear snow and ice as quickly as possible, but sometimes it is difficult to keep up. Make prudent decisions!
God bless, Fr. Keller

Director
Every year, the 8th graders in our parish school & PSR program are required to do service projects as a part of their formation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. COVID has limited their opportunities to do hands-on community service in the usual way, but it has also created an opportunity to reach out to our senior community in a special way. Many of the 8th graders put together Christmas stockings filled with small gifts to drop off at the homes of those older parishioners who have been confined at home during this pandemic. With each stocking came also a small bag of Christmas cards made by our younger students. The parish received a few heartfelt notes of gratitude from the seniors (pictured above). One woman who received a stocking and cards shared that this small act of kindness “showed me someone cared to get this together and the children working on it for the shut-ins was such a warm feeling. That is what Assumption Parish is all about!” Let us keep taking care of each other during this pandemic and showing each other the love of Christ!
