THE YACHT COVE
SCUTTLEBUTT
By E.L. Ayers, President
S
THE BRIDGE
By David Stradling, General Manager
THE PILOT HOUSE
pring has sprung and it is a great time to do some
“Spring Cleaning”! We should begin by each of us
taking a look around our own condos and removing
unsightly trash and clutter, especially at our back doors. On a
recent walking tour of the backs of buildings, most patio and
decks were presentable. However, some were horrible - with
everything from piles of trash to just plain clutter. The piles of
trash, old boxes and other filth provide a perfect breeding
ground for water bugs and roaches. So, please be considerate
of yourself and your neighbors and ensure that your back pa-
tios and decks are presentable. Take a look from the front or
street view of your condo as well. Some window treatments
are quite unsightly with torn screens, clutter in the windows,
damaged blinds or makeshift curtains. With the vinyl-sided
buildings completed, we have a beautiful community. Let’s
each do our part to maintain and improve the beauty of our
community.
We still need volunteers for the beautification committee.
Please contact David Stradling in the office to discuss beauti-
fication ideas or to volunteer. It is time to plant spring flowers
to enhance the beauty of Yacht Cove.
It is with great sadness that Judy Mulkey has announced
her retirement as Editor of the Scuttlebutt. We are all indebted
to her for the wonderful and professional job she has done for
years in editing our community newspaper. Please make an
effort to thank her personally. It is her desire to have more free
time for travel and family and we wish for her a well-earned
time for those activities. Thank you, Judy, for all you have
done for our community!! She has graciously agreed to help
train her replacement and donate the software she used. If you
have interest and experience with computer software, and wish
to take the position of Editor of the Yacht Cove Scuttlebutt,
please contact David at the office.
We are continuing to improve and include more on our
Yacht Cove blog. To access the blog, simply Google, “Yacht
Cove blog”. The Scuttlebutt will be posted there each month.
Most residents now have computers, so we will no longer dis-
tribute paper copies unless you request one. This will save
time and money since it will result in decreased printing ex-
pense as well and time saving. You will find other worthwhile
information on the blog, including the activities calendar, board
minutes, committee reports and a link to Yacht Cove Facebook.
INTERESTED IN COMPUTER CLASSES?
If any YC residents would be interested in attending computer
classes at the YC clubhouse, please call the office at 781-3202
and put your name on the list. Hours would be something like
6:30-7:30 p.m. for just a couple of classes. David Stradling is
trying to find someone to teach the classes if enough residents
are interested.
I hope resident’s take the opportunity to clean their limited com-
mon elements during the annual spring clean. This event allows you
to put items at curbside and Yacht Cove will pick up the items and
discard for residents. The By-Laws state that residents are respon-
sible for cleaning their limited common elements, and after a walk
thru with the Architectural Committee we identified a good number
of patios and porches that need a good cleaning.
TRASH ENCLOSURES
Please do not place paint cans, construction debris or items that are
not household garbage containers in the thrash enclosure. The above
items need to be taken to the Lexington County landfill located across
Lake Murray Blvd. on Old Bush River Road. Please do not place
household garbage in the recycling bins or the construction debris
dumpster inside the gated work shop area. Trash enclosures are the
resident’s responsibility to keep neat and clean.
PARKING
Visitor spaces cannot be used by residents as permanent place to
park. These spaces cannot be used by guest for extended without a
visitor’s pass.
YACHT COVE BLOG PAGE
The homeowner’s meeting minutes will be posted on this page
along with a copy of the monthly Scuttlebutt. To get to the site, type
the following into your search engine, http://yachtcovesc.blogspot.com
We’re trying to reduce the number of Scuttlebutt copies we need to
print and deliver. If you cannot access the Scuttlebutt on your com-
puter, please call the office and we’ll make sure we continue to pro-
vide a hard copy for you.
EXTERIOR LANDSCAPING
All exterior landscaping must have prior approval. Draw up your
plans, sign, and date, add your address and submit to the office. Ap-
proval or denial takes only a few days in most cases.
Outside Spigot Covers
Please place the cover near the spigot if you have removed. We’ll
pick these up next week.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
President Ayers ask for volunteers for some committees that
will not be able to operate unless someone steps forward. We
desperately need volunteers for the Beautification and Block
Captain committees. Please consider giving a little time to your
community. This will help to reduce the work load on our paid
staff and therefore reduce the need for future regime fee in-
creases as well as demonstrate your interest and pride in our
community.

Thank you to Yacht Cove residents who made food donations in
November. Please have a giving spirit and drop a few cans or boxed
items into the Care and Share basket at the YC office during December.
The next delivery to the SC Oncology Center will be April 23.
Let’s remember the needs of cancer patients and their families. If
you don’t have time to shop for food items, a grocery store gift
certificate would be a wonderful gift that would allow a family to
purchase meat or other needed items. We have so much to be thankful
for; let’s share our blessings.
Please remember that adults aren’t the only ones who suffer from
cancer. It is heartbreaking to see young children undergoing chemo
and radiation. Think about a food, snack or candy that you can put in
your donation that would brighten a child’s day.
CARE AND SHARE
By Judy Mulkey
Below are a few suggested food items for donations to the Care
and Share baskets for cancer patients at the clubhouse.
sugar minute rice jelly soap coffee
ravioli spaghetti sauces macaroni pasta gum
dried beans canned drinks peanut butter flour soups
powdered milk meat spreads quick grits jello spam
pudding canned ham crackers cereal chips
People ask for brand name products because they have
become know for dependability and service throughout the
years. These names assure us of quality.
We, to, are known by our names. A good name is a price-
less but perishable possession. There is a name which, through
the years, stands above every name for dependability, quality
and integrity. That name is Jesus Christ.
In this day of confusing and false claims, to whom else can
we turn? Jesus alone has words of eternal life. The Bible says,
“They know that know Thy NAME will put their trust in Thee,
for Thou Lord hast not forsaken them that seek Thee!” In the
name of Jesus you can be forgiven; you can start over; you can
be saved; and you can know the peace of God. Reach out to
Jesus - he is reaching out to you!
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH COMMITTEE
By Ray WallinOur third meeting of 2012 was held on Wednesday, March 7 at
7 p.m. We had nine members in attendance.
CRIME PREVENTION TIP: Common Scams!
•Advance Fee Loans
In this ploy, scam artists trick you into paying money to qualify
for a loan. Scam artists may “Guarantee” a line of credit or promise
to deposit money in your bank account once you pay an initial fee.
Despite these claims, however, you likely will not receive any
money. You should never pay money to qualify for a loan.
•Credit Repair Scams
These scams advertise on the Internet, on TV and even on tele-
phone poles, that bad credit can be erased and debts can be con-
solidated. Many of them charge hundreds or thousands of dollars
but do little or nothing to improve your credit. The reality is that
these companies cannot erase accurate negative information from
your credit report. With certain exceptions, negative information
can remain on your credit report for up to seven years, if you want
to improve your credit, contact a credit reporting agency or your
creditor directly. You may be able to arrange a payment plan your-
self – for no cost.
To obtain a free copy of your credit report contact any one of
the below nationwide consumer companies.
