SALVARE – Save Our Children and Our Planet, is a Bosconian initiative to join hands in
creating awareness and responsibility to protect our Children and our Planet for future
generations and a call to our children to be “Saviours”.
SALVARE an Inter School Literary Fest is a coming together to create through words,
stories and painting, a Wake Up Call to Save Our Children and Our Planet. The fest
comprises of Literary events and Painting Competition. Winners would be awarded
Trophies and Cash Awards
1st Prize : Trophies & Cash award of Rs.1,000/-
2nd Prize : Trophies & Cash award of Rs.500/-
3rd Prize : Trophies & Cash award of Rs.250/-
Champion Trophies - Ever Rolling Trophies - will be awarded to schools that Score the
highest Point in each medium (Malayalam & English).
Your School may be represented by one student each for each category in Individual
Events and maximum of 5 children each in each category in the Painting Competition.
Competitions will be held in Malayalam and English separately.
Registration fee of Rs.100/- per participant per event is to be paid on the day of the
competitions at the spot registration venue. Participants will be provided free vegetarian
Lunch & snacks at the venue.

SALVARE 2019 – Save our Children and Our Planet, presented by Don Bosco, is a Bosconian
Initiative of Don Bosco Senior Secondary School and Don Bosco Past Pupils, Kochi.
SALVARE 2019– Save our Children and Our Planet, aims to create a bond and to join
together our neighbourhood schools to promote the message “Save our Children and
Save our Planet”. Salvare is thus a call “TO SAVE”. It’s a call to be saviors of our Children and
their childhood and to save our mother Earth.
SALVARE 2019– Save our Children and Our Planet, is an Inter School Literary Fest, aimed
to bring together Children and to proclaim their right to be protected and their
responsibility to save their planet: Mother Earth.
General Rules and Regulations Governing SALVARE-2019
1. SALVARE consists of 11 events in which schools can participate. There are 5 events in
English and 5 events in Malayalam. There is also a Painting competition which will be
held separately for English and Malayalam medium schools.
2. The Individual Events in English are:
ARISTOTLE - Semi-Extempore - High School
KEATS - Declamation - U.P. School
CHARLES DICKENS - Story Telling - L.P. School
OSCAR WILDE - Story Writing - UP & HS Students
BERNARD SHAW - Essay Writing - UP & HS Students
3. The Individual Events in MALAYALAM are:
AZHIKODE PURASKARAM - Semi-Extempore – High School
O N V PURASKARAM - Declamation - U.P. School
BASHEER PURASKARAM - Story Telling - L.P. School
MADHAVIKUTTY PURASKARAM- Story Writing - UP & HS Students
POTTEKKATT PURASKARAM - Essay Writing - UP & HS Students
4. Besides this section B has Painting Competition entitled “Michaelangelo” “Raja Ravi
Varma Puraskaram” competition. This will be conducted in 3 categories: LP, UP & HS.
While Competition has been given 2 names, competition will be combined event and
there will be one set of winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) for each category. There will not be
separate event or separate winners for English/Malayalam medium. Five students each
from a school can participate in each of the categories.
5. A School can participate in all the 10 individual events and in the painting
competition. Maximum events a school can take part is 11. Schools are free to select
the events in which they would like to participate.
6. In the individual events only one student each can represent a school in an event.
7. All events would be based on the Theme “SALVARE” – Save our children and Save our
Planet. Therefore, theme based declamations / story narration will bring in additional
marks.
8. Participants should not wear their School uniform to the stage. They may
choose costume dress, which could fetch maximum of 5 marks, based on
suitability.
9. Date of the event is - 18th October, 2019 Friday. 8:00 am to 3:00 pm
10. Venue shall be Don Bosco Senior Secondary School Vaduthala.
11. Collection of Registration fees and handing over of Roll Numbers would begin
at the Venue Registration Counters at 8:00 a.m. Competitions will begin at
9:15 a.m.
12. The maximum time per participant for declamation & Story Telling shall be 4
minutes. Maximum time for Semi-Extempore is five (5) minutes.
13. There would be warning bell at 30 seconds before the time limit and final bell
at the end of individual event time (4th / 5th minute). Those exceeding the time
limit will get 3 minus marks per extra 10 seconds taken.
14. For Essay & Story Writing Events, time permitted is 1 hour 30 minutes. For
painting 2 Hours would be the duration.
15. Vegetarian Lunch and Tea would be provided free at the venue.
Accompanying teacher / parent also would be provided lunch.
16. Participant should bring their school ID card with them.
17. The first three winners in each event would be awarded Trophy, Certificate and
Cash Prizes (Rs.1000/- 500/- and Rs.250/- respectively for 1st 2nd and 3rd
positions). All the participants would be given certificates.
18. Registration shall be made sufficiently early by e-mails by filling in the
Registration forms available at the website
www.donboscoschoolvaduthala.com. Spot Registration also would be
permitted.
19. Registration charges per participant per event shall be Rs.100/- (Rupees one
hundred).

ARISTOTLE - Semi-Extempore (in English)
AZHIKODE PURASKARAM - Semi-Extempore (in Malayalam)
I. Event Aristotle and Azhikode Puraskaram are semi-Extempore Speech
Competition in English and Malayalam respectively. This is for High
School Students only. Separate Competitions shall be held in English &
Malayalam.
II Following are the five topics given for the speech Competition (both for
English & Malayalam). Students have to prepare for all of them. Five
minutes before the Competition, the contestant will pick up the topic
through a lucky dip. Participant has to speak on the topic chosen by lot.
Preparation time for participant is 5 minutes. This is a prepared event,
yet with topic chosen just before the event, Hence we call this - Semi-
Extempore.
1. Nature & Environment depletion is the price you pay for
Development - Is it justified.
2. Is scientific & economic development true scale of development
3. Is Childhood & Children in danger today? – your views
4. An action plan for a greener tomorrow.
5. Preparing our children to be safe – Suggested way forward.
III Semi-Extempore competition aims to bring out the Oratory talent of the
student along with language fluency, diction and pronunciation,
memory power, logical thinking and power of conviction. The
participants would be judged on
a. Exposition of the Topic
b. Logical Thinking – Clarity of ideas
c. Original ideas
d. Language: fluency & style
e. Speech Delivery
IV Participants have to be present at the side stage, for easy co-ordination.
KEATS Declamation in English - UP School Students
O N V PURASKARAM Declamation in Malayalam - UP School Students
I. Event KEATS and O.N.V. PURASKARAM are declamation Competition in
English and Malayalam respectively. This is for UP School Students only.
Separate Competitions shall be held in English & Malayalam. One student
each from each school can participate in these events. Schools can take part
in both the events. Same student or separate students can take part in these
events.
II. Declamation competition aims to bring out the recital talent of the student
along with theatrical talents, language fluency, diction and pronunciation,
memory power and delivery of the literary piece. Hence, participants are
encouraged to dress according to their piece of literature as costume may
also carry a few marks.
III. The recitation competition shall be held in English & in Malayalam
separately.
IV. Students may choose a poem or a speech of great orator, portions of drama
or prose or from scriptures etc. The recitation matter should be that of a
famous English source/ Malayalam source.
V. A Photocopy of the Recitation matter along with the source should be
submitted before entry to the stage.
VI. In case of a poem, it should be of at least 16 lines and prose should have at
least 12 sentences.
CHARLES DICKENS
- Story Telling in English - L.P. School
BASHEER PURASKARAM
- Story Telling in Malayalam - L.P. School
I. Event CHARLES DICKENS and BASHEER PURASKARAM are
Story Telling Competition in English and Malayalam
respectively. This is for L.P. School Students only.
II. Story Telling competition aims to bring out the story telling
talent of the student along with theatrical talents, language
fluency, diction and pronunciation, memory power. Participants
are free to done any costume as costume may also carry a few
marks.
III. Story telling competitions shall be held separately for English &
Malayalam categories. One student each from each school can
participate in these events. Schools can take part in both the
events. Same student or separate students can take part in
these events.
IV. Students may choose a story they have read or an original
story they have made or an anecdote from the life of important
persons. Story could be in their own words. A Photocopy of the
story should be submitted before entry to the stage.
OSCAR WILDE
- Story Writing in English - UP & HS Students
MADHAVIKUTTY PURASKARAM - Story Writing in Malayalam - UP & HS Students
I. Event OSCAR WILDE and MADHAVIKUTTY PURASKARAM are Story Writing
Competition in English and Malayalam respectively. This is for Students of UP &
High School Students only, which will be considered as a single category.
I. Separate Competitions shall be held in English & Malayalam. One student each
from each school can participate in these events. Schools can take part in both
the events. Same student cannot take part in both the events.
II. Essay Writing & Story Writing competitions aim to bring out the Writing talent of
the students along with their language fluency, analysis of situations, creativity
and imagination.
III. Students will be given the topic / subject theme at the venue on the day of the
competition only. Theme would be related to the Event theme “SALVARE – Save
our Children and Our Planet”.
IV. The maximum time for Essay Writing & Story Writing competitions shall be one
and half hours, including initial 15 minutes for subject matter explanations and
clarifications.
V. Participants should not write their names or anything pointing to their identity in
the Writing paper. Any such practice will lead to disqualification.
VI. Essays and Stories would become the properties of the Organizers and they shall
be free to use them and publish them – in media electronic/print, by giving
credits to the author.
BERNARD SHAW
- Essay Writing in English - UP & HS Students
POTTEKKATT PURASKARAM
- Essay Writing in Malayalam - UP & HS Students
I. Event BERNARD SHAW and POTTEKKATT PURASKARAM are Essay Writing
Competition in English and Malayalam respectively. This is for Students of UP &
High School Students only, which will be considered as a single category.
MICHAELANGELO &
RAJA RAVI VARMA PURASKARAM Painting Competition – LP, UP & HS Categories
I. Section B is Painting Competition entitled “Michaelangelo” &
“Raja Ravi Varma Puraskaram”.
II. This will be conducted in 3 categories: LP, UP & HS. While
Competition has been given 2 names, competition will be
combined event and there will be one set of winners (1st, 2nd
and 3rd) for each category. There will not be separate event or
separate winners for English/Malayalam medium.
III. Five students each from a school can participate in each of
the categories. A school can nominate 5 students each for
each category. (5 LP, 5 Up & 5 HS students for painting.
IV. Painting competitions aim to bring out the artistic and
creative talent of the students in this field. Essay Painting &
Pencil Drawing competitions shall be held separately.
V. The topic for painting would be related to SALVARE – Save
our children and our Planet. Exact Topic would be given at the
venue on the day of the competition.
VI. Participants should bring their painting materials. Only paper
for drawing would be supplied by the Organizers and this
paper alone shall be used for the competition. Any natural
and normal painting medium including Oil paints / Fabric
paints Water Colours / crayons / colour pencils would be
permitted.
VII. The maximum time for Painting competition shall be two
hours.
SALVARE 2019 - CHAMPION SCHOOL - SCORING PATTERN
I. SALVARE 2019 Don Bosco Inter school Literary Fest 2019 (DBILF 2019) is
being held on individual participant basis, wherein each participant has the
possibility to become the Winner in that particular Competition. However, DBILF
2019 will also have a Winner School in English Category and in Malayalam
Category.
II. The School which secure the highest mark (in each medium) will be the winner –
Champion School and would receiving the Winner Trophies.
Methodology for selection of the winner shall be as follows.
1. There are 5 events in English in SALVARE 2019, in which a school can take part.
Further there are 5 events in Malayalam, in which a school can take part. Besides
this a school can take part in Painting Competitions also.
2. When a School compete in both English & Malayalam medium, they will be
competing in 10 items. They can also participate in Painting.
3. But, winner will be determined based on Medium. For this purpose, schools can
compete in both English & Malayalam Medium, if they compete in all 10 items.
4. For Painting Competition, Schools will indicate which students to be added to
be added to Michaelangelo / Raja Ravi Varma based on the medium they
choose to compete in. This will have to be made known at the time of
registration itself. If a student is added to Raja Ravi Varma Puraskaram his
marks will be added to Malayalam medium championship. If they enter in
Michaelangelo, the marks will be added for English Medium Championship.
5. If a school participates only in English or in Malayalam medium, they will
naturally be competing in that medium only for overall championship. They
need not break up.
6. To be a Champion in a mediu , the school should take part in all 5 individual
items of the respective Medium they chose to compete.
7. Only the Marks of the School specified medium will be taken school wise
championship. However, a school can take part in both medium and could be
winner both the categories.
8. The marks obtained by the participants in various competitions (and not the
position based marks) will be added together and the school that secures the
Highest mark in each medium would be declared winners.
9. As there is option for 15 participant in painting, marks of all participants (of
each school) (in each of the categories) will be added to determine the
Champion.
10. In case a school participates in both medium, the marks of the participant of
Raja Ravi Varma will be added to Malayalam Medium scores and Michaelangelo
to Emnglish Medium Scores. School can choose to divide their students
between these two events or in a single event/medium. School have the right to
nominate students to each medium. Nomination cannot be changed.
11. Schools are encouraged to participate in maximum number of events.
III. Misbehaviour or indiscipline of serious nature on the part of the
participating school, would be submitted to the Discipline
Committee, who may impose a penalty on the school score in terms
of minus points to be deducted from the school score. (Maximum
score that can be deducted by penalty is 10 points). Such schools
can be even be disqualified from the event as well.
IV. Organizers shall frame and inform rules for the smooth conduct of
the events. They shall not be in conflict with these rules. However,
they shall complement these rules and may be made as required for
the smooth conduct of the event.
V. Organizers reserve the right to make any change in the programme
or to postpone or to cancel the event in the event due to any
unforeseen eventuality.
