Thank you for your support. Father Mecca
The bulletin is once again available in
paper form for our parishioners attending
Mass! Bishop Caggiano gave approval
this week with the condition that the bulletins are not left in
the pews. In order that bulletins do not pass from hand to
hand, they will be placed by the doors at the conclusion of
the Masses. I am delighted that we can once again offer
you a hard copy. The bulletin is the primary means by
which we communicate to the parishioners. I’m sure many
people have moved over to reading it on line but, I gather
that there are just as many who have not. The closing and
reopening and my inability to inform you of either made it
very clear to me that our parish ought to move toward elec-
tronic communication. In the up-coming weeks, I will
speak to you about an initiative to do just that.
I’ve decided to re-run part of last week’s column
because of its importance and my desire that our parishion-
ers are informed about the end product of our 15 month
process of determining the relationship of our Brazilian
community with the rest of the parish. None of us on the
Collaborative Committee knew where we would end up.
The process was truly organic. It seemed to be heading in
one directions then it moved toward another. As you know
already, the Bishop proposed creating the Brazilian commu-
nity into a Quasi-Parish. I explained what that meant last
December and January when the official decree was signed.
What had to happen in the course of the last six months was
to reach agreement on the relationship between the Quasi-
Parish and the Parish. As with everything, the corona virus
had an impact on our progress, but two weeks ago we
agreed upon the financial obligation that the Quasi-Parish
of Our Lady of the Aparecida would have in support of the
church building we share. The agreement is for one year
and will be re-evaluated in April 2021. The closure of
church, the inability to run fund-raisers, and the drop in Of-
fertory make projections for fiscal 2020-2021 impossible.
Bishop Caggiano asked us to keep the dollar amount that
the Brazilian community currently contributes the same
while the quasi-parish gets its footing this fiscal year. The
quasi-parish, as of July 1, assumed payment of the
cathedraticum on its income and mortgage payments on the
pastoral center on Liberty Street. Those sums are now de-
ducted from our expenses. Under the forecasted budget, the
quasi-parish can sustain a $28,000 contribution toward the
expenses associated with the church. If the quasi-parish
runs a surplus, it will contribute an additional $6,000 to
reach the current total yearly contribution.
One last piece remains and that is the splitting of
the mortgage. Work is being conducted on that. Again, our
foe the virus impacted our ability to get that accomplished
by July 1. I will speak to you about the consequences of the
split in the weeks to come.
As the Collaborative Committee has now con-
cluded its task, I need to recognize and thank the six mem-
bers from the parish who served on it. They are Michael

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
McLachlan, Christine Moore, Rick Palanzo, Terry Pepin,
Marita Repole, and Fred Visconti. I am deeply grateful to
these dedicated parishioners. They gave up many hours for
meetings first in person and then by zoom. They were very
thoughtful and brought to the meetings what I hoped they
would – catholicity, a willingness to listen, and a desire for
unity and for the vitality of St. Peter Parish. They repre-
sented the parish well.
On Saturday, our parish celebrated First Commun-
ion for our youngsters. In order to maintain social distanc-
ing, we divided the students into three groups and cele-
brated Mass at 9, 11, and 1 p.m. We had to make adjust-
ments, like eliminating the procession and seating the chil-
dren with their families, but everyone knows and under-
stands that nothing is as it was right now. We congratulate
the children whose names are listed. We pray for them that
they will always recognize the true treasure that the Eucha-
rist is in their lives and desire it always.
Normally, the third Sunday of July in our Diocese
is Cooperative Mission Sunday, but due to the pandemic
and travel restrictions, the missionaries could not visit.
Nevertheless, we will provide an opportunity to support
missionary work on the weekend of July 25/26. See the
box on the flap.

Bible Study Every Wednesday teens from our Confirmation program and highschool/middleschool youth groups come together via ZOOM for bible study. The goal in each study is for our teens to find a line/word of scripture that best speaks to them, and allow that to be their focus for meditation in prayer as they dive into a deeper relationship with Christ. All teens in grades 8-12 are welcome to attend! Youth Group Every Sunday teens in highschool meet for youth group via ZOOM! During this time the teens can hangout virtually via ZOOM. They can still engage one another and see their friends faces! Each Sunday we cover a small topic, something that engages the teens in their spiritual life and we ask them to use it as reflection for the week in their prayer life. Volunteering Teens in our high school leadership program (CREW) have been volunteering on Sundays to help with registration! Even though we are in a pandemic, we can all still lend a helping hand! Co-Operative Mission Weekend
For many years our diocese has hosted speakers in
July from the developing world to address us regarding the
needs of their local Churches during our Mission Co-Op
Weekend. Due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19
pandemic, we will need to make some changes. This year
proceeds will be equally distributed to the Catholic Pan-
demic Relief Agencies in those parts of our global commu-
nity that have been impacted the most by this scourge.
Please consider a generous donation to assist Catholic agen-
cies throughout the world on the weekend of July 25/26.
