Page 2 Fourth Sunday of Advent My Dear Parish Family
Merry Christmas to you, your families and friends.
May the birth of Jesus that we com-memorate this Christmas bring to you peace, joy, happiness and the fulfill-ment of your heart’s desires.
Each Christmas offers to us the unique opportunity to refocus on the profound change and the life-altering gift of God in His Son, the incarnation of the Fa-ther, or the Emmanuel (God with us). He is always with us on our pilgrimage of life. He has the message of peace for our world. He also invites us to be agents of peace to a world still broken by sin, sickness, anger, violence, poverty and hatred. Fittingly we sing with the angels, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom
he is pleased.” Let us all be agents of peace and reclama-tion, this Christmas season and in the New Year ahead.
At the beginning of Advent we choose the theme of ‘Watchful waiting in service of God and neighbor.’ Thank you to all of you from Saint Patrick who have supported our church and community this past year by putting your faith into action through your gift of Time, Talent and Treasures.
After Christmas day I will take my annual vacation, travel-ing with the ImaBridge team, bringing the peace of Jesus to people in Africa. Thank you too for supporting our efforts and please keep us in your prayers. I will see you in late January. May Jesus. the Prince of Peace, through the in-tercession of His parents and ours, Mary and Joseph, bring His peace to you and to our world. Amen.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Fr. Godwin
A Prayer For Christmas
O sweet child of Bethlehem grant that we may share with all our hearts
in this profound mystery of Christmas. Put into the hearts of men
and women this peace for which they sometimes seek so desperately
and which you alone can give to them. Help them to know one another better,
and to live as brothers and sisters, children of the same Father.
Reveal to them also your beauty, holiness and purity.
Awaken in their hearts love and gratitude for your infinite goodness.
Join them all together in your love. and give us your heavenly peace. AMEN.
Pope St. John XXIII
The Parish Staff wishes all of you a very Blessed and Merry Christmas. May the Infant
Jesus bring you and your family peace and joy.
In observance of Christmas, the Parish Office will be closed on Monday, December 25th
and Tuesday, December 26th.
The office will re-open with normal hours on Wednesday, December 27th.

The Intention of this Devotion is to console the Immaculate Heart of Mary by offering reparation for the blasphemies and ingratitude of unrepentant sinners, and for peace in the world.

2.Receive Holy Communion - Mass will begin at 8:00AM 3.Say five decades of the Holy Rosary - Recited after Mass 4.Meditate for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Holy
Rosary - After Mass
All the requirements can be fulfilled at St. Patrick if you chose to stay after Mass for the Rosary and Meditation. You may complete the 3rd/4th requirements at a later time, but it must be completed on that Saturday.

Cold weather means an increase in the cost of heating our homes, an increase which exasperates the struggles of those working hard to make ends meet each month. St.
Vincent de Paul has received calls for assis-tance from several families who have received a shut-off notice from ComEd or Nicor recently. Thanks to your gen-erous donations, St. Vincent de Paul has been able to as-sist these families. Wouldn’t you prayerfully consider a donation to SVdP or your parish Poor Box to help those in need? Mark 12:31 The second is this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no other com-mandment greater than these.
Vocation Corner God is love. It looks like a very
simple sentence: a subject, a verb, and an adjective. How-ever, it is the deepest reality we may imagine. What is love? How can I know that I love? Why I should love? Saint John says, ‘we know that God is love because He has sent His only begotten son to us, so we may have life in abundance’. From the words of Saint John, we may conclude that love is a gift, freely given. It is a gift that brings life. This perfect love consists not on giving things, but giving himself.
Jesus is the manifestation of love. In Him we re-ceive God himself. In Him we become sharers of love to others. We become instruments of love. We read in the gospels that when Jesus saw the people, He was moved with pity because they were like sheep without a shep-herd. He wanted to feed not only their bellies, but also their spirit. That is why He taught them many things.
The disciples did not understand Jesus’ love. I imagine them in a bossy voice telling Him: ‘dismiss them, so they can go and find something to eat’. Also, I imagine Jesus replying to them ‘you give them some food. We can-not feed them’. The disciples were right: they were unable to feed the crowd by themselves. They were unable to do it because they were so attached to the loaves and fish they have. But once they gave Jesus what they had they were able to feed the people.
Sometimes we behave as the disciples of Jesus in this gospel. We try to tell Jesus what and how to do things. But He is asking us to go ourselves and to love others. We discover we cannot do that by ourselves. Even if we have seven talents, and five qualities, it is insufficient for loving others. So, we bring before Jesus our talents and quali-ties, so we may be able to love and serve others. So, we may be able to give the gift of ourselves to others, then we will be answering God’s call to love him and love others.

Story Behind the “12 Days of Christmas”
The song was written by Catholics in England as a catechism song to teach their children about the Chris-tian faith. The songs “gifts” helps them remember the teachings of the faith. “True Love” refers to God. “Me” refers to every Christian. The other symbols mean the following:
1 Partridge in a Pear Tree = Jesus Christ 2 Turtle Doves = The Old & New Testaments 3 French Hens = Faith, Hope and Charity OR Father, Son and Holy Spirit (The Trinity) 4 Calling Birds = The Four Gospels 5 Golden Rings = First Five Books of the Old Testa-ment (The Pentateuch or the Books of Moses) 6 Geese-A-Laying = The Six Days of Creation 7 Swans-A-Swimming = The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit 8 Maids-A-Milking = The Eight Beatitudes 9 Ladies Dancing = The Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit 10 Lords-A-Leaping = The Ten Commandments 11 Pipers Piping = Eleven Apostles (excluding Judas) 12 Drummers Drumming = The Twelve Points of Doc-trine in the Apostles Creed

THE ONE THING IS THREE
How the Most Holy Trinity Explains Everything
With humor and ease, Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, deftly unlocks the ‘one thing,’ the key to the Church’s wis-dom, and the greatest mystery of the Catholic faith: the Most Holy Trinity. Far from being an academic read, the ‘One Thing’ is Three makes deep theology accessible to everyday Catholics. What’s more, it makes even what’s familiar or forgotten new, exciting, and relevant.

Word of Life
“An unexpected pregnancy can be a difficult and frighten-ing time, and it’s important that your friend knows you are thinking of her and supporting her. … Your support might be the only support she receives. Even if we never know how, the smallest things we do can change someone’s life.”
