XXVI Domingo de Tiempo Ordinario 30 de septiembre de 2018
Saint Canera, patroness of
Irish Sailors, is sitting in a boat
with an oil lamp, the symbol of
wisdom and virginity, with a
monastery on an island in the
background where she sought
spiritual rest. She was refused entrance to the is-
land but was given Eucharist just before she died. The shamrock speaks to her Irish ancestry.

R E F L E X I Ó N

Recuerde, fui-
mos hechos a Su imagen. Tendemos a olvidar es-
to.

Today we find ourselves in a Spiritual Battle. Gov-
ernment actions and court rulings are in conflict
with God’s law. Persecution of traditional reli-
gious belief and practice is unprecedented. In this
Jubilee Year of Mercy,
we are called upon to
help turn our country
back towards God. We
will accomplish that
through prayer; prayer
that can change hearts,
change our families, change our communities and
change our country. There is no stronger weapon

Diocesan Stewardship Message
“Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink be-
cause you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will
surely not lose his reward.” MARK 9:41
Does your life reflect the life of Jesus? Remember, we
were made in His image. We tend to forget this. When
others see you, do they see the face of Jesus? When
you look at others, do you see the face of Jesus in
them?
R E F L E C T I O N
Children pick the best for their teams; logi-
cally, they always pick the strongest, most agile
or those who know better strategies. Something
similar happens in most fields of human life.
The most competent people are chosen for jobs,
since they are proven to possess greater intelli-
gence or skill in something. God, however,
does not choose in this way. It is always surpris-
ing that he seeks the most unexpected, to carry
out his work; or rather, what is surprising is that
he opens his mission to all… except those
whose riches have them so enslaved that they
are incapable of thinking of others. By riches,
Jesus means not only money, but the conviction
of having power, of being sure that they have
the exclusivity on truth. These attitudes, which
indicate a hold on any area of power or domi-
nance, have no place in the kingdom of God; in
other words, those who think or believe this way
do not have the ability to enter because they are
too wrapped up in themselves. If you are
wrapped up in something, it is best to remove it
and throw it out. These constraints can be a
sense of arrogance, as well as an erroneous
sense of humility that fails to recognize the
work of God.
This is why today those who believe that
they are poor, powerless, and inferior are invited
to also come out of this slavery. If God calls
everyone, nothing and no one can stop us from
getting closer to God, to do his works, and serve
in the style of Jesus.
