Dear Friends in Christ,
HAPPY FATHERS DAY! Special and warm greetings to all of our
fathers: Father, Grandfathers, God Fathers, Holy Men, pillars of our
parish. May God bless all of our fathers today and every day! Love to
all Dads!
“Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge
before my heavenly Father.” (Mt. 10:32). Would others know that
you are Catholic by the way you act and speak? Do you share your
Catholic faith with others? Do you defend your Catholic faith when
the situation arises, or do you remain silent? Do you pray in public
before meals? Pray for the strength and courage to be a joyful witness
of our Catholic faith when the opportunity presents itself. Let us be-
come the radiant light and bold witness that we are called to be!
It was a special joy to have Deacon Mick at Mass last week and to
Saint Aloysius Catholic Church A Discipleship Parish
hear him preach again. After time away with the issues surrounding
the death of his daughter and his foot surgery, it is good to have him
back in the saddle. May God continue to bless Deacon Mick as he
encourages us in our spiritual journey and reaches out to the home-
less of our city. Mick, it is good to have you home, where you be-
long.
“Summertime and the living is easy.” That is how an old American
musical put it... The living may be easy, but often the giving is not.
Summer collections often drop significantly in our parish because of
vacation travel, sports schedules and other activities that cause pa-
rishioners to attend Mass in other parishes. Along with the COVID-
19 quarantine, our donations have been down. If you would like to
make your giving easy and consistent this summer, please consider
our electronic giving option. Currently several parish families are
using this simple and secure way to make and track their parish giv-
ing. If you would like to learn more, please contact the parish office
or check out our website at www.saintaloysius.org for on-line giving.
Thank you for your generosity.
Last Sunday we continued to have Sunday Mass in the church fol-
lowed by the distribution of Holy Communion. The Mass was live
streamed on Facebook. Being faithful to the diocesan and state regu-
lation for reverence and social distancing we had 112 attendants at
Mass (we can have as many as 125) and a few more for communion
who came to church once the Mass had concluded. Again, from all
reports at the writing of this note, the Reopening Task Force and
others in general were happy with how St. Al’s responded to and
interpreted the guidelines of the diocese to our parish.
Considering the increased numbers of attendants, we have decided to
expand our offering of Mass in Church beginning this weekend. We
will add to the schedule our Saturday Vigil Mass at 4:30pm and keep
our Sunday Morning Mass at 8:00am. At each Mass the same proce-
dures will be followed: Be flexible, keep a smile on your face, and
follow the directions of the ushers. Communion will be distributed
after each Mass as we did last week. After the Saturday Mass com-
munion for those not attending the Mass will begin around 4:45pm
and after the Sunday Morning Mass at 8:45am. Only the Sunday
8:00am Mass will be live streamed.
As we anticipate our new normal, there will be many things that will
gradually be reimplemented at Church. I will do everything I can to
make this run smoothly. But you need to ask yourself about how you
are going to keep abreast of the information. Updates will be made
on Facebook, Flocknote.com, Weekly Bulletin, etc. These are the
primary ways I will communicate with you. Please make sure you
are connected.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, make our hearts like yours.
Be assured of my prayers for your and your family’s health… see
you on-line!

Planning has started for the 2020-2021 school year at St. Al's! With guidance
from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Diocesan Office of Education, our Re-
Opening Task Force is evaluating the best way to meet student needs as we resume in-
person learning. Parents will be asked to fill out a survey about their 2019-2020 experi-
ence with distance learning so we can better guide that process should we need to resume
e-learning at some point next year.
St. Aloysius School will continue to enroll students through the summer months. We are
a preschool thru 8th grade, north-end Springfield faith community served by award-
winning faculty and dedicated staff! We provide extra-curricular activities and offer IESA,
as well as SCAA, sports teams, an art and music program, and a STEM curriculum. If you
know someone interested in St. Aloysius School, please have them e-mail Angie Daniels
or Denise Reavis for more information.
Your Share the Word teachers Kathy, Kim, Marcy, Mikki, Nancy and Rita sure miss
seeing you at 10:30 mass. We have been attending mass online and hope you as a family
is also attending mass. Soon the churches will open where a small group of people can
attend. Unfortunately the adoration chapel we use will not be available. So we will not
have Share The Word until further notice. In the weekly bulletins our special handout is
included. Make sure you check it out, so you can go over the Sunday readings and activi-
ties. We wish you all a great summer and can't wait till we can pray and spread God's
word together.
School Office Hours…The school office will be open during the summer on Wednes-
days from 9:00am-noon. Mrs. Reavis and Mrs. Daniels can be reached at 544-4553 or by e
-mail. The parish office (Mr. Harkins) will be open from 9:00am-noon Monday –
Thursday .
SHG will be hosting the 2020-2021 Zero Hour Testing Monday, June 29th. All
testers need to arrive at SHG east campus by 8:45am to begin the test at 9am. Due to the
current COVID19 safety precautions issued by IDPH, all testers are required to wear a
mask and will have their temperature taken at the door. The exam will take approximately
90 minutes and students may NOT use a calculator for any part of the test. All students
will need to bring a pencil to the exam. Please direct questions to [email protected].
Please remember that if your child is entering preschool, Pre-K, Kindergarten, or the 6th
grade a Physical Examination must be completed with-in one calendar year prior to
the date of entry. The exam must include up-to-date immunizations and a medical history.
Students entering Kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th grades will need a dental exam. Also- stu-
dents entering Kindergarten will also need an eye exam performed by a licensed optome-
trist. Exams must be completed within one year prior to the first entrance to the required
grade. The exam must be completed on the required state “Certificate of Child Health”
form. Parent Sig-nature and completion of the Health History section is required on this
form. Current physical, dental and eye examinations need to be returned to our school
office prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
Annual Fund… We are so close to meeting our annual fund goal of $15,000.00! Thank
you to everyone who has donated to the Annual Fund! We are facing the
postponement of several of our most important fund-raisers, such as our
Dinner and Auction and Charger Dash. How amazing it would be for us
to surpass our goal of $15,000.00! Thank you again for your generosity
Please visit https://www.saintaloysius.org/annual-fund to donate!

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time ... June 21- “Do Not Be Afraid.” Who would count every single hair on our heads? God,
who knows us better than we know ourselves. And loves us,
too. Though we may be afraid of some things in life, afraid of the
shape of the world, even afraid of some persons, we need never
fear God – who is with us like a mighty champion. Of what and
of whom am I afraid? How will I trust that divine power is superi-
or to earthly power? How can I, like God, tend to at least one
who is poorer than me?
The Nativity of St. John the Baptist, Solemnity.. Wednes-
day, June 24 -The Announcer. That is who John the Baptist
is: the one who announces, who urges us to pay attention to Je-
sus. The Christ is our salvation. He is our peace. How can I,
even in some very simple way, announce that Jesus Christ lives
among us this day, this week, this year?
Ruin
You and I can ruin pretty much anything.
Apart from a few things that are intrinsically good. Like Good
Friday.
And a few others that are intrinsically bad. Like letting some-
thing get between you and God.
Everything else? It’s open to our input, to our influence.
Which means that you and I can ruin it.
Or not.
It all depends on our “why.” Why we do what we do.
Think about this - which would you rather get from your signifi-
cant other?
A thoughtful gift that shows up randomly - maybe only once or
twice a year - just because they were thinking about you?
Or something nice every week - so you’ll shut up about it?
Right. One of them tugs at your heart.
And the other one? It’s a stiff arm. A cold shoulder in a gift bag.
This is the point that Jesus is making in the Gospel. When He
warns against doing good things in order to impress people.
Jesus isn’t talking just about keeping up appearances. He’s flag-
ging a universal problem.
The way that we ruin even the best things. When we make it all
about us. When we smuggle in pride. Whether we mean to or
not.
It’s not enough to just do the right thing. God is calling each of
us to do the right thing, for the right reasons.
Why? Because God knows us.
God knows that in the long run, it’s the only way that you and I
can avoid ruining even the best things in life.
- Deacon Jim
St. Aloysius Catholic Church: A Discipleship Parish
Parish Bulletin Board
This weekend we once again will celebrate public Mass in our parish. Attendance will
be limited to 25% of the church’s seating capacity. This is roughly 150 people. We will
Saturday Mass at 4:30pm and one mass Sunday at 8:00am. Parishioners will still have a
dispensation from the obligation to attend. If you are in a risk category (or someone in
your immediate family is), it might be wise to not attend at this time. Last weekend 112
people attended Church, 14 additional received after Mass and 356 watched on facebook.
The current dispensation from attendance at weekend mass remains in effect.
We will continue to live stream Mass on Sunday, weekday Mass and the rosary. We will
also provide communion services after the weekend masses to those unable to go to Mass.
Going to Mass. Please arrive tot church at least 10 minutes before Mass begins. Masks
are required if you wish to enter church. Hand sanitizers will be available in the vesti-
bule. The ushers will direct you to your seat. Every other row of pews will be taped off
and tape marks will be placed on the pews for social distancing. Families living in the
same house may sit together, but otherwise you are asked to observe the markings. There
will be no missalettes (they have been taped off and there will be no bulletins( they will be
emailed on Fridays) You may bring your own missal but please take with you when you
leave. The collection basket will be placed in the middle of church for your donation. You
can still drop your envelopes off at the rectory mailbox or by mail. Following social spac-
ing and guidelines it was certainly a successful start to what will hopefully be a steady
return to regularity.
Act of Spiritual Communion... A Prayer by St. Alphonsus Liguori … My Jesus, I be-
lieve that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I
desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramen-
tal, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and
unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
The Parish office is open 9:00-noon (Monday-Thursday) to the public. In the afternoons
we will be working on details (moving storerooms, files, archives of various sorts, etc.) at
the Rectory and on campus. Our weekly bulletin will be accessible through our parish
website. This is the best way to know what is going on in the parish. You can also sign up
to receive Flocknotes. Instruction our on the website.
All Parish activities are CANCELLED. This includes meetings and all other gatherings
involving use of the Church Facilities in groups until further notice.
Thank you for your contributions that keep us current on bills, utilities, payroll, benefits,
and so much more. Whenever there is a challenge or a need, St. Aloysius always steps up.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
There is an envelope in your June packet for the building fund. This envelope will help
generate monies that allow us to undertake parish projects that we could not complete with
our ordinary operating budget. In the coming months the chimney on the church will be
needing some repairs, bids are being collected. Repairs on the sewage pump in church
have been ongoing. New parts are on order and will be installed over the summer. MANY
THANKS!
The Annual Catholic Services Appeal has concluded. Recall that the appeal from the
diocese began last September, and our parish goal was $51,458.00 which supports the
work and ministries of the diocese across central Illinois. 89 households made pledges
totaling $24,500.00 which averages to $275.28 pledge. Thanks to you who donated. Your
stewardship to our diocesan church is inspiring! Since we did not make our goal, the bal-
ance of must be paid to the diocese.

would otherwise incur. Please patronize
