Routine Care for Violin | Viola | Cello

Need help from an expert?

• Do not leave instrument in extreme hot or cold temperatures (i.e. the car). • Be careful not to stand the instrument on the scroll to avoid breaking the neck. • Be sure to pluck strings on the fingerboard (not on the Bridge) • Store the case on a shelf or table. Avoid putting the instrument or case on the floor or

the bed. Where the case goes the violin goes…. • Instrument should be used by student ONLY and not a sibling. • Do not touch bow hair with hands. • Securely close case before moving the violin or picking up the case. • Do not try to tune your own instrument unless taught by the teacher first. Tighten bow

when you want to play. Loosen bow when you put it away. • Evenly rosin bow at least 1 time each week. For cello, do this every other day. • Wipe off excess rosin from the instrument with a dry cloth after playing (not the bow

hair). • Cellos: When unpacking the cello, unpack the bow first, then the cello. When putting

the cello back in the case, put the cello in first and then the bow. • For more information, see this article.
