authors, and multiple authors.• How to cite works with groups as authors.• How to cite works with no authors.• How to format in-text citations correctly.
Number of authors
Sources may have a variety of authorship, for example: • One author • Two authors• Multiple authors • Groups as authors• Works with no authors or anonymous authors
One Author
To cite one author, use one of the following formats:• According to Davis (2009), popular video
games can be effective for learning.• Second Life and other simulation based web
sites are used in instruction (Davis, 2009). • In 2009, Davis’ study of online learning
showed the effectiveness of games for learning. (American Psychological Association, 2010, p. 174)
Two Authors
When a work has two authors, give both authors’ names every time the reference occurs:
1. Authors2. Date in parentheses
(A) Banks and Smith (2009) supports…(B) (Banks & Smith, 2009)
(American Psychological Association, 2010, p. 175)
Multiple Authors
• Authors o Carey, Jackson, Bieber, Seacrest, and Minaj
(2011) found…• Date in parentheseso Carey et al. (2011) found…
(American Psychological Association, 2010, p. 175)
Groups as Authors
• Write out the name with an abbreviation in parenthesis the first time it appears.
• If the acronym is easily misunderstood, spell out the name each time. o National Library of Medicine (NLM)o Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) o Department of Health and Human Services

Works with no author
• Use double quotes around an article, a chapter, or a web page. o hematoma is (“Study Finds,” 2012)
• Italicize titles of books, periodicals, brochures, or reports o the book Lost in college (2012)
