Richard was born and brought up in Dublin. He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin with a degree (MA) in history. Prior to becoming a solicitor he worked in bookselling and publishing. He is currently studying for an LLM in Mental Health Law at Northumbria University.
Richard qualified as a solicitor in 1996 and was a partner with Burton Copeland and Cooper Kenyon Burrows before being called to the Bar in 2003. He is in demand by both Defendants and the CPS and is regularly instructed in cases involving allegations of murder and serious violence, conspiracy, drugs, firearms and sexual offences.
He has a keen interest in and experience of cases involving mentally disordered or vulnerable defendants and complainants.
He appears in the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) instructed by the General Medical Council. He accepts instructions in Inquest cases and has conducted them for different interested parties in inquests ranging from industrial accidents to deaths at sea.
His approachable manner and determination makes him a popular advocate and he provides clear, focused and realistic advice out of court and first class representation in court. He is a qualified mediator with a loyal following.
