    Creative sparks igniteyoung imaginations atthe annual MagicLantern Celebration onPaseo on Sunday, Oct.25 from 3-7 p.m. Paseoartists open their doorsand invite children to

    jump into their own cre-

    ativity as they make paper costumes anddance in a twilight

    parade on a pumpkin painted on the street.

    A time of lightinstead of fright, theMagic Lantern Celebra-tion offers a new uniquetwist to an old Hal-

    loween tradition. Allthat children need to doto prepare for this eventis to be ready to be sur-

    prised by what they cre-ate. Children of all agescan wear their everydayclothing to Paseo and

    then, their spontaneouscostume trans-formations

    begin. Await-ing them areall kinds of

    paper that can be twisted,

    folded, crum- pled, ruffled,and embellished

    into fantastic wearableart.

    Children and their parents can walk fromstudio to studio to buildtheir costumes. Unusualand authentic possibili-

    ties are to be found aschildren construct hatsfrom collage materialsand bits of fancy. Facesare made to sparklefrom behind lanternmasks. A pumpkin faceevolves from real natu-ral materials. This is an

    opportunity for parentsto share in the problemsolving of their child’sconstructions.

    Wish Finders will be present to help childrenmake a wish and keep itin mind throughout theexperience. MagicLantern finishes with aCelebration at twilightwhen all costumed char-acters, their friends andfamilies are invited todance on a winding path

    painted in the shape of aJack ’o Lanternlabyrinth on the street.Steve McLinn, OjasMusic, offers his origi-

    nal music as the dancersof Theatre Upon a Star-DanceSwan inspire allchildren to spin andsparkle as they followthe pumpkin path.

    Lorrie Keller, director of Theatre Upon a Star-DanceSwan and founder

    of this event says, “TheCelebration is inspired by the verse, ‘We are allMagic Lanterns, lit bythe light of imagina-tion.’All of the artistswho make this day of visual art, theater, musicand dance possible wishto ignite the creativespark every child pos-sesses; the children arethe true creators of Magic Lantern.”

    Paseo, OklahomaCity’s historic arts dis-trict is a unique arts des-tination! Rain or shine,the costume makingactivities are held inside

    from 3 - 6:15 p.m. ThePumpkin Parade is out-side at 6:15 p.m. Chil-dren must be accompa-nied by an adult. Activi-ties are held at the northend of Paseo at 30th.Participating studios areTheatre Upon a Star-

    DanceSwan, Paseo ArtSpace, Rainbow Fleet,and Paseo Pottery. Allactivities are free to the

    public.
