MUSCLE, JOINT, AND BONE INJURIES

Strain = a tear in the muscle.

Sprain = an injury to ligaments around a joint

Call 911 if :

The pain is severe.

The joint appears deformed.

TREATING MINOR STRAINS AND SPRAINS

Protect = bandage or splint.

Rest = Limit use of injured body part.

Ice = Ice the injured body part.

Compress = Wrap firmly with a bandage.

Elevate = Raise injured body part above the level of the heart if possible.

Squeeze nostrils together and lean forward.

If bleeding persists after 20 minutes seek emergency help.
