Resolutionsadopted at the 22nd meeting of ISO/TC 108/SC 2 "Measurement and evaluation ofmechanical vibration and shock as applied to machines, vehicles and structures"on 2004-03-29 and 2004-04-01 in Cairo, Egypt
Resolution 1/2004 ISO 10816-2:2001/DAmd 1 Mechanical vibration Evaluation ofmachine vibration by measurements on non-rotating parts Part 2: Land-based steam turbines and generators in excess of50 MW with normal operating speeds of 1500 r/min, 1800 r/min,3000 r/min and 3600 r/min Amendment 1"
ISO/TC 108/SC 2 decides to circulate the proposed Amendment 1 to ISO 10816-2 to themembers of SC 2 for approval as a new work item. By return of their votes, members shall alsoindicate their approval to transmit the attached draft to ISO/CS for DIS circulation.
Resolution 2/2004 Torsional vibration of rotating machines
ISO/TC 108/SC 2 decides to register the project for Torsional Vibration of Rotating Machines as apreliminary work item.
Resolution 3/2004 Establishing of new working group
ISO/TC 108/SC 2 decides to set up a new working group to prepare Part 3 of ISO 13373Condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines Vibration condition monitoring Part 3:Basic techniques for diagnostics. The convenor will be Mr Aly El-Shafei, Egypt; project leader:Mr Holger Hackstein, Germany.
ISO/TC 108/SC 2 further recommends that this should be a joint working group with SC 5. Mr El-Shafei will prepare the work item proposal which the Secretariat will send to SC 5 together with arequest to nominate experts to this new joint working group 2.
Resolution 4/2004 1st ISO/CD 20283-2:2003 Mechanical vibration Measurementof vibration on ships Part 2: Guidelines for themeasurement, evaluation and reporting of global structuralvibration in merchant ships (Revision of ISO 4867 + ISO 4868)
ISO/TC 108/SC 2 decides that upon receipt of a revised text by 2005-01, a 2nd CD 20283-2 willbe circulated to the members of SC 2 for voting.
Resolution 5/2004 2nd ISO/CD 20283-3:2003 Mechanical vibration Measurementof vibration on ships Part 3: Pre-installation vibratoryacceleration measurement of shipboard equipment
ISO/TC 108/SC 2 decides that upon receipt of the revised 2nd ISO/CD 20283-3 by 2004-09-01,the Secretariat will submit the text to ISO/CS for DIS circulation.

Resolution 6/2004 Liaison with CIMAC
With regard to the work of WG 2 Vibration of ships, ISO/TC 108/SC 2 recognises that a liaisonwith CIMAC " International Council on Combustion Engines" has been established with Mr NenadBobanac as liaison officer from ISO/TC 108/SC 2. It was noted that Mr Per Roennedal has beenappointed by CIMAC as liaison officer on their behalf.
Resolution 7/2004 Revision of ISO 4866:1990 Mechanical vibration and shock Vibration of buildings Guidelines for the measurement ofvibrations and evaluation of their effects on buildingsincluding Amendments 1 and 2
ISO/TC 108/SC 2 recognises the ongoing preparatory work of WG 3 on the revision of ISO 4866including the amendments. The Secretariat is requested to invite members to nominate additionalexperts to the group and to submit comments on the draft documents.
Resolution 8/2004 ISO/CD 14839-3:2003 Mechanical vibration Vibration ofrotating machinery equipped with active magnetic bearings Part 3: Evaluation of stability margin
ISO/TC 108/SC 2 decides that the revised text of 1st ISO/CD 14839-3 will be submitted to ISO/CSby the end of October 2004 for DIS circulation.
Resolution 9/2004 ISO/DIS 14837-1.2:2004 Mechanical vibration Ground-bornenoise and vibration arising from rail systems Part 1: Generalguidance
ISO/TC 108/SC 2 recognises that WG 8 reviewed the member comments on ISO/DIS 14837-1.2.Upon receipt of the revised draft by 2004-07, the Secretariat will submit the text to ISO/CS forfinal voting (FDIS circulation).
Since this work item is at risk of being cancelled according to the 5-year-rule, SC 2 reconfirms thework item. This resolution was approved by the following members: Canada, Croatia, Egypt,France, Germany, Japan, Norway, Republic of Korea, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA.

In view of the rule, that projects, which have not reached publication stage after 5 years, will beautomatically cancelled, ISO/TC 108/SC 2 decides to maintain work item ISO/CD 10816-7 in itsprogramme of work, because the work item is still needed and a 2nd CD is available for circulationfor voting.
This resolution was approved by the following members: Canada, Croatia, Egypt, France,Germany, Japan, Norway, Republic of Korea, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA.
