RECREATIONAL SPORTSRecreational sports are more about fun or fitness than about competition. These are sports you can do alone or with friends as a way to have fun or relieve stress. The opportunities for women to participate in sports have never been greater than they are today and many women have been recognized for their skill. Participating in a wide variety of sports will help keep your body fit and give you many hours of enjoyment.
THINGS TO KNOW AND DOComplete the Task, plus the number of tasks listed in each section.
Choose one recreational sport from each group listed that interests you and do the following:
• Find out about any special training or equipment needed for that sport.
• Learn any rules and etiquette that apply to the sport.

Find out how to choose the best sports shoe for at least TWO of the activities you selected inTask.
1. FIND A LOCAL GROUP OR CLUB THAT FOCUSES ON ONE OF THE RECREATIONAL SPORTS LISTED INTASK.
Arrange to visit or invite a speaker to come to one of your meetings. Have the speaker explain the benefits of the sport, how to become proficient, and any challenges for participating.
2. ATTEND A RECREATIONAL SPORTS COMPETITION.
It can be any sport that is not a racquet or team sport. Pay special attention to the number of women represented and whether they compete separately from men. Discuss your observations with your troop or leader.
3. MANY OF THE SPORTS LISTED INTASK ARE OLYMPIC EVENTS.
Choose one event and learn about a woman who competes in that event.
4. MAKE YOUR OWN BOARD GAME AND PLAY IT WITH YOUR TROOP OR A GROUP OF FRIENDS.

3. MAKE AN INFORMATIONAL RESOURCE INFOGRAPHIC, VIDEO, PAMPHLET, ETC. TO WARN OTHERS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF THE FEMALE ATHLETE TRIAD.

Find a Scripture that inspires you to keep going. Use it to make a tee shirt to wear when you practice or play your chosen sport. There are many to select from. Here are a few to consider.
• Isaiah 40:29-31
• Hebrews 12:11-13
• Colossians 3:23-24
• 1 Timothy 4:8
2. BUILDING STRENGTH AND SKILL IN ANY SPORT REQUIRES TRAINING.
In 2 Timothy 2, Paul speaks of building spiritual strength. Do the following:
• Read the chapter. Pay special attention to verses 22-26 (printed to the right from The Message for your convenience).
• Underline the things we are to avoid and circle the things we should do instead.
• Highlight one thing that is the hardest for you. Make a personal plan of how you will accomplish this.
“Run away from infantile indulgence. Run after mature righteousness—faith, love, peace—joining those who are in honest and serious prayer before God. Refuse to get involved in inane discussions; they always end up in fights. God’s servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey. You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, enabling them to escape the Devil’s trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands.”
