The AER (Associazione Ecologica Romana) organization
The no profit organisation AER – Associazione Ecologica Romana has
been founded on 1979 by a group of people who respect nature and with
the purpose to deepen the knowledge on plants .
The main activity is the management of conferences on the theme of
nature, botany and related arguments, and also it manages a photography
contest.
The organisation is housed in the ancient Botanical Garden in Rome.

The Botanical Garden of Rome is a Museum belonging to the Department of
Environmental Biology of the Sapienza University of Rome and has a long
history.
It covers an area of about 30 acres in the very heart of the city, in the famous
and well known area of Trastevere. It occupies part of the archaeological area
called Horti Getae, which belonged to the family of the emperor Septimius
Severus.

Then became the garden of the Corsini
Palace, where lived the queen Cristina of
Sweden in the 17th century (1659 – 89).
The present form of the gardens was
established in 1883, after the Unity of Italy,
when the grounds of Palazzo Corsini were
given to the University of Rome.
In the 13th century (1277-1280) during the
papacy of Nicolò III was created a
pomerium or verziere, as one of the
vatican gardens.
There are four greenhouses:
the bigger houses tropical plants
the monumental with cactus
the corsini greenhouse with succulents plants
the french greenhouse houses a collection of Haworthia
Noteworthy specimens include Cedrus deodara, Dasylirion glaucophyllum and
Dasylirion acrotrichum, Erythrina crista-galli, and Liquidambar orientalis.
