PROJECTOVERVIEW

BLUFF PCI PROJECTThe Bluff PCI Project is a small truck and excavator operation, with a 1.2Mt per year output of PCI coal for use in iron manufacturing. Construction of the mine began in 2018, with first coal expected by mid-2019. Once mined, the coal will be initially transported to the nearby Cook Colliery for processing and then transported via train to the RG Tanna Coal Terminal for export. The Project will build a dedicated CHPP in several years’ time.

The Project team intend to build upon the strong mining and railway history associated with the Township of Bluff, and we aim to help keep those trains, which the township proudly supports, running.

Since our very first community meeting in May 2013, we are proud to have been working with you towards the success of the Project. With operations about to commence, this overview of progress will show the milestones so far, and what will happen next.

WHAT IS PCI?

PCI Coal is a type of metallurgical coal used for making steel with the Pulverized Coal Injection (PCI) process. PCI involves firstly processing the coal into fine grades, then blowing fine granules of coal into the blast furnace so that the production of metallic iron is speeded up. This reduces the need for coking coal and the result is that energy use and steel manufacturing emissions are reduced.

We will continue to work consistently with you to ensure the Bluff PCI Project will bring maximum economic and social benefits to the local community.
