program description Based in the French psychoanalytic tradition with an emphasis on the work of Jean Laplance and drawing on Winnicott’s clinical wisdom, Dr. Scarfone’s goal is to offer a refreshed view of Freudian psychoanalysis. He hopes to show that Freud’s thinking is very modern if, following masters such as Laplanche and Winnicott, we are able to think anew about some of the major Freudian tenets, first among them the theory of seduction, trauma and psychic temporality. Dr. Scarfone also hopes to show that Ethics, under-stood as different from deontology (a set of pro-fessional rules), is a fundamental component of the psychoanalytic endeavor. First, he will pre-sent an outline of Laplanche’s modern revisiting of the Theory of seduction and its consequences on the understanding and management of trans-ference. Then, Dr. Scarfone will put his model to the test using a clinical case presentation that he has not selected. He will welcome a lively dis-cussion with the audience. In the afternoon ses-sion, Dr. Scarfone will present a detailed case of delusional transference. He will dig deeper into his conception of transference and of analysis or psychotherapy as a whole, illustrating the sheer autonomy of the analytic process and what it entails for the members of the analytic dyad. A recap of the day will follow, with a general ques-tion and answer session.
