NMFA President's Message
Welcome to Nipawin Music Festival! This year marks the 80th annual festival. It is my pleasure & honour to welcome you here & thank you for supporting this annual event. A special welcome to our adjudicators for sharing their talents & expertise. Many thanks to all of the financial supporters. Without you, this event could not happen. Thank you for investing in this community event & believing that music enriches our community. Our Music Festival would not be possible without the dedicated volunteers who give of their time. They have worked hard to make this event happen. We also appreciate those who have served in years past. Thank you to each one who has given of your time, effort & hard work.
Last year’s festival was canceled one week before the planned date due to Covid19. The festival committee worked quickly to put on a virtual festival allowing the competitors to showcase the music that they worked so hard on. This year will also look different from other years but we are happy to be able to have a music festival in accordance with the guidelines put in place by Saskatchewan Health Authority. I am excited about the future of the Nipawin Music Festival. Thank you for being part of it. Wishing all participants the very best for a rewarding Music Festival of 2021.
Sincerely, Jamie Hildebrandt

Kevin completed his Bachelor of Arts (music major with Distinction, 2012) from the University of Saskatchewan; Kevin studied music history/literature and his principle instrument was guitar. His chosen degree path offered the opportunity to attend the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon as a visiting student. He has presented papers at City University of New York – Graduate Center, Simon Fraser University music composition class in Vancouver, at the National Registered Music Teacher convention in Halifax and in Regina at the Saskatchewan Music conference.
Kevin now balances a music career while instructing Power Engineering at Carlton Trail College in Humboldt and volunteering his
Steam Traction Engineer certificate on the K+S Shortline 101 Vulcan locomotive in Moose Jaw at the Western Development Museum. Kevin is a part-time guitar instructor; these students enjoy classical learning through to rock n’ roll. Benefits of this learning prepare the students for music festivals, Royal Conservatory of Music practical and theory exams and university auditions. Kevin is a Registered Music Teacher in the province of Saskatchewan and is past-president of the Watrous Music Festival. Kevin is also an adjudicator for guitar/woodwinds/small ensemble with the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association.
Their guitar flute duo/trio which includes Dr. Michele Ackerman and Dale Avison on Clarinet, perform province-wide in diverse opportunities which include a Convocation performance as well as being members of St. Pete’s Chorus house band in Humboldt. Michele has expanded her musical interests and now includes her Udu drum, a real highlight. The past four summers 2016/17/18/19, Michele and Kevin were 'Artists on Board' Via Rail for a portion of the cross-Canada journey.
