The IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference is the most anticipated and most important event for welding community. It is an honor for Indonesia to be the host for The 71st IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference on 15-20 July 2018 at Bali Nusa Dua Convention
Centre (BNDCC) Bali, Indonesia.
The event offers a great opportunity for welding professionals and scholars to discuss the latest trends, highlights, as well as new opportunities in the
welding and material joining technologies. It also provides new business networking through information and knowledge sharing, as well as to
strengthen the close relations within our community. Indonesia has over 260 million populations, more than 16.000 islands, and rich in natural resources. A valuable resource waiting to be explored further. I
genuinely believe that this event will create a vast opportunity for welding industry in Indonesia as well as partnering countries to grow together with other industries. Most importantly, the event will also create a talent pool of human resources across the globe for the welding industry. Since appointed as the host country, the committee has been working hard to ensure that we deliver conducive meetings and unforgettable experience
for all participants with close guidance by the International Institute of Welding (IIW). I hope the participants will enjoy all the events and excitements our committee has arranged. I also hope the results of this event will help to shape the welding industry and provide a useful outcome to face
future challenges.
I would like to express our highest gratitude to The International Institute of
Welding (IIW) for the guidance and support from the very beginning. We
would also like to thank our sponsors, participants, and all parties who have given their relentless support for the success of our event.
Enjoy the event, enjoy Bali!

WELCOME REMARKS
It is a great pleasure for Indonesian Welding Society and University of Indonesia to extend to you all a very warm welcome to the 2018 edition of IIW International Conference on “Advanced Welding and Smart Fabrication Technologies for Efficient Manufacturing Processes”, in conjunction with the 71st IIW Annual Assembly 2018.
It is please to note that the scope of the conference covers a wide range of very interesting items related to welding, joining and recent development in smart fabrication technologies. Within this frame, the 2018 IIW International Conference will host the following prominent speakers including the Houdremont Lecture award presented by Mr. Pratjojo Dewo (Indonesia) as well as keynote speakers Mr. Chris Smallbone (IIW Past President, Australia), Prof. Pingsha Dong (University of Michigan, USA), Prof. Djarot Wisnubroto (BATAN, Indonesia), Dr. Eric Sjerve (IRISNDT, Canada), and Prof. Surendar Marya (Ecole Centrale Nantes, France).
With the continuous challenge to fabricate various sizes of metal components with low cost and short production lead time, notably the rapid development of smart and additive manufacturing process we hope this conference can provide a platform for knowledge exchange and networking among scientist, researchers, educators and industry practitioners.
Welcome to Indonesia, enjoy the conference and thank you for magnicent contribution and participation.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.MetChairman of International Conference
