Curriculum Vitae
Dr. VijayKumar L. Dharurkar, born in 1954 at
Omerga, Dist Osmanabad, Maharashtra is a son of freedom
fighter Laxmikantrao Dharurkar. Mr. Laxmikantrao Dharurkar
was a personal secretary of Swami Ramanand Teerth,
President of then Hyderabad State Congress. He shunned legal
practice and joined the national school in Bharat Vidyalaya,

where he worked as a teacher. Dr. Vijay Dharurkar completed
his schooling at Bharat Vidyalaya, Omerga in 1969 by securing
first class with distinction. He is a rank holder in B.A. of
Marathwada University, Aurangabad (1973) (presently as Dr.
Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University), with
Economics, History and Political Science as optional subjects.
He is recipient of National Scholarship 1969 to 1975. He
received number of prizes and awards during the school and
college education Elocution. He was selected for youth camp
organized by UNESCO in 1971 for celebration of international
Education year, Warnanagar (Dist. Kolhapur). During the
college years, he worked as a correspondent to the leading
Marathi Daily ‘Sanchar’, Solapur He bagged several best
speaker prizes in University level Youth Festivals.
He joined the Department of Ancient India Culture and
History in Marathwada University, Aurangabad in 1973 (
presently as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada
University), for his P.G. course. He received Gold Medal for
securing highest number of marks i. e. 70% in May, 1975, at
MA History. He joined Ministry of Education and Cultural
Affairs, Govt. of India's research wing Archeological Survey of
India as Technical Assistant (Research/Guide Lecturer).
He has participated in Daimabad Excavation 1976-1979,
report of which has been published by Archeological Survey of
India. He has made an outstanding discovery of Late Harappan
site at Varsus (Tq, Sindhdkeheda Dist: Dhule in Tapti valley,

which was the first evidence of Indus Vally culture in South
India. (IAR 1978-79) He joined HPT/Bytco College, Nashik
Road, Nashik, as a Lecturer in History.
His research work which was initially under supervision of
Professor Dr. R.Gupte, Fulbright professor on the topic “The
art and Iconography of Ellora Jaina Caves” was completed
under Dr. T.V.Pathey who was also a Fulbright professor. He
has worked with leading archeologists like Dr. S.R. Rao,
Mr.M.N.Deshpande, Prof. N.C.Ghosh, Mr. K.N.Dixit and
R.G.Pande. He is today recognized as a top ranking scholar in
Jainalogy and cultural communication. He has been awarded
The Jaina Vidyabhushan Award in 2009. His papers on Ellora
Jaina caves were published in 3rd Internatiaonal Jaina
Conference in 1985 and Jain Manjiri, Canada, USA 2008. His
papers have also been published in Cajac Review, Waste
Management Journal USA, Theory Culture society, UK. He has
received a best paper award in Management Conference
organized by Mumbai University in December, 2008.
In 1980 he joined the Department of Journalism, Shivaji
University, Kolhapur as Lecturer and Head and completed a
project on Marathi Press in 19th Century Maharashtra He had
the fortune to be associated with the Department of
Journalism in Shivaji Univesity, at its inception. He also worked
as a member of Senate. In 1982, he joined Marathwada
University, Department of Journalism (presently as
Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, Dr.

Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University). In 1991 he was
selected as Reader. From 1998 he is working as Professor and
Head. In 1994 he was honoured with the UGC Career Award as
Young Scientist and submitted a project on "Mass
Communication Potentials of Folk Media in Maharashtra". In
2001 he has been assigned a major research project by UGC
on the topic, "I. T. Application for Rural Development". He has
also completed a detail report of the same in book form.
He is associated with a number of educational institutes
and has been advising them for excellence in the field of
Education. He is a member of local governing council of
Mahatma Gandhi Mission’s Jawaharalal Nehru Engineeing
College, Aurangabad, a premier institute both in India and
abroad.
In 2002 he has been awarded for Life Time Achievement
Award by Bombay Journalist Association as a pioneering
professor in Journalism. . In 2004 he has been awarded
Marathwada Ratna Puraskar. He has been included in 1000
Cambridge Intellectuals of the Millennium and he has been
also included in 500 Harward Social Scientists of Asia and his
name is also included in the Whose Who in the World. His
name has been included in 100 best educators of 2007
enlisted by IBC Cambridge. He is also recipient of Plato Award
in 2008. He has visited U. S. A. 1991, Italy 1993, Germany,
1994, U. S. A. 1995, for presenting Research Papers on variety
of subjects. He has also chaired two sessions in Germany and
USA in 1994 and 1995. He has also worked as NCERT expert

on Educational Journalism where he presented a number of
papers at seminars / conferences in leading Universities in
India such as Banaras Hindu University, Calcutta University,
Madras University, Madurai University, Osmania University, M.
S. University, Baroda, AMU, Aligarh and Calicut University,
Karnataka University, Dharwad, Mangalore University
Bhartiyar Univesity, Coimbature etc.
He has published 25 books in Marathi and Two in English.
He has delivered lectures on various topics at Kolhapur, Goa,
Nashik, Ahmednagar etc. He has been widely acclaimed as a
public speaker in English, Hindi, Marathi. He knows many
Indian Languages such as Marathi (Ahirani), Hindi, Kannada,
and Telgu and English. He has worked as Member of Senate,
Academic Council and Board of University Planning and
Development at University level.
In 2002, when the University was accrediated by NAAC,
it was under his headship that the Department of Mass
Communication and Journalism, secured highest ‘87 points’
topping the University. He has also worked as NAAC peer team
worker for assessing academic institutes in Madhya Pradesh
and Andhra Pradesh.
He was selected as Professor – Director of the UGC –
Academic Staff College, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada
University, Aurangabad in January, 2004 and he completed
five years term successfully upto 31 December, 2008 . From 1
January, 2009, he has resumed as Professor at Department of
Mass Communication, and at present the Head of the
Deparrtment. As a Director of Academic Staff College, he has

ably led the institute in the country and in 2006 the college
was at the third position amongst all ASCs in India. He
assembled a state of art computer lab, media lab at the ASC.
Out of his pursuit, a beautiful landscape garden has blossomed
around the once desolated campus of ASC. With three well
equipped full-fledged seminar halls, the ASC BAMU has
emerged as one of the ideal centers of teachers training in
western India.
He has delivered lectures in Journalist training workshops
conducted by Daily Sakal – Pune and Ford foundation – U.S.A.
He is also a regular faculty at ‘YASHDA’ and Tilak Maharashtra
Vidyapeeth – Pune. He has worked as advisory committee
member of Academic staff colleges in Pune, Mumbai and
Nagpur Universities.
He is presently the President of Indian Society for
training and development and has organized training
programmes in corporate sector at many places.
