Important Notes:
It is recommended to check the suitability of the product for the intended procedure prior to use.
Endoscopes and accessories contained in this catalog have been designed in part with the cooperation ofphysicians and are manufactured by the KARL STORZ group. If subcontractors are hired to manufacture individualcomponents, these are made according to proprietary KARL STORZ plans or drawings. Furthermore, theseproducts are subject to strict quality and control guidelines of the KARL STORZ group. Both contractual andgeneral legal provisions prohibit subcontractors from supplying components manufactured by order ofKARL STORZ to competitors.
Any assumptions that competitors’ endoscopes and accessories are acquired from the same suppliers as theKARL STORZ products are not correct. Moreover, endoscopes and instruments provided by competitors arenot manufactured according to the design specifications of KARL STORZ. This means it cannot be assumedthat these endoscopes and accessories – even if they look identical on the outside – are constructed in thesame manner and have been tested according to the same criteria.
Standardized Design and Labeling
KARL STORZ participates both in national and international bodies involved in the development of standardsfor endoscopes and endoscopic accessories. All data relevant for safe use, such as viewing direction, sizes and diameters, or notesregarding sterilization of telescopes, are applied to the instruments, have been formulated accordingto international standards, and therefore provide reliable information.
As we constantly seek to improve and modify our products, we reserve the right to make changes in designthat vary from catalog descriptions.
Original or Counterfeit
KARL STORZ products are name brand articles renowned around the world and represent the state of the artin important areas of healthcare. A large number of “copy cat” products are currently being offered in manymarkets. These products are designed intentionally to resemble KARL STORZ products and use marketingstrategies that at least point out their compatibility with KARL STORZ products. These products are by nomeans genuine products, since genuine KARL STORZ products are sold worldwide exclusively under the name ofKARL STORZ, which appears on the packaging and the product. In the absence of such labeling, the product is not from KARL STORZ.
KARL STORZ, therefore, is unable to ensure that such products are actually compatible with genuine KARL STORZproducts or can be used with them without injury to the patient.

Proctoscopy and Rectoscopy
Approximately 50% of adults suffer from an anorectaldisease and related symptoms at least once in theirlives. The disease can be identified by reviewing thepatient’s medical history thoroughly, thereby allowing atentative diagnosis to be made.
An inspection and rectal digital exploration are theobligatory preliminary medical examinations, which arethen followed by instrumental diagnostic procedures.
The correct indication for a method of treatment andoperation can only be given once a careful and preciseproctological investigation has been carried out.
A wide range of improvements in the techniques forinpatient and outpatient proctological operations in thelast 2 decades, not to mention the innovations inaccompanying diagnostic examinations, have led tomuch greater acceptance and satisfaction amongst thepatients concerned.
The most significant indications for a proctologicalexamination are:● Anal bleeding● Skin changes in the anal region● Pruritus● Anal pain
Many diagnoses can be reached upon inspection of theanal region. In this case, the detection of fissures, scarchanges or fistula openings indicates a requirement forfurther examination using an ARNOLD fistula hook. After a digital examination, rectoscopy and procto-scopy are performed using rigid tubes. Depending onthe findings and symptoms, various tube sizes can beused for proctoscopy and rectoscopy.
A significant aspect of the day-to-day work in proc-tology includes diagnosing and treating hemorrhoidalcomplaints. Sclerotherapy and rubber band ligation canbe implemented successfully in the treatment ofhemorrhoidal diseases which are still in the earlystages. A variety of ligation devices can be used for thispurpose. Many of the instruments used in ligationtreatment require the aid of an assistant, although thisis generally not the case when suction ligationinstruments with an integrated suction pump is applied. After use, the suction ligation instrument can bedismantled easily and the hygienic preparationperformed efficiently.
The hand instruments presented here for the diagnosisand treatment of proctological diseases are highlyrobust and easy to take care of. This guarantees a longservice life. The metal and plastic parts can beprepared hygienically in the thermal disinfection deviceand sterilized in the autoclave.

TROIDL Rectoscope,flexible
Range of application:1. This application offers less traumatic access to body
cavities/orifices, providing similar benefits as flexibleendoscopy. The anorectal area provides the surgeon or generalpractitioner with the ideal scope for diagnosis andtreatment.A concrete diagnosis in the rectum and anal channel(polyps, ulcers, carcinoma, hemorrhoids, and evenfissures and fistulae) is offered. The surgeon has the possibility to determine pre-and intraoperative resection limits in the distalrectum and – what is very important – to monitor anddocument completed anastomosis. This is all performed in the OR with minimal effort.
2. The injection treatment of hemorrhoids I – II, perhapseven grade III, is in the foreground of this therapy. This includes the possibility of dilating variousstenoses in the distal colorectum.Similar to standard flexible coloscopes, i.e. polypscan be removed with a snare or hemorrhage sourcescan be treated by injection.
3. The practicality of this “short” flexible endoscopecould make it suitable for use in the abdomen usingcannulas and particularly in thoracoscopy, not tomention problems in gynecology.
Field of application:Specially suited for the diagnosis of surgical illnessesand surgical procedures in the rectal area (polyps, ulcers, carcinoma, anastomoses, stenoses, hemor-rhoids, fissures, fistula).
Summary:The flexible rectoscope offers all the benefits of flexibleendoscopy. The short size of the instrument enhancesthese benefits with the correct indication. Its ease of use (general practicality) results in less traumafor the patient in comparison to standard technologies. The physician can, therefore, treat the patient preciselyand relatively quickly with minimal discomfort.
Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h. c. H. TROIDL
Special Features:● The flexible rectoscope generally offers all the
benefits of flexible endoscopes:– Optimal visualization, i.e. magnification– Sharp imagery– Possibility of observation with a video system– Optimal control– Documentation
● The decisive advantage of this instrument is thepossibility, despite extreme flexion, i.e. to passthe injection cannula through the workingchannel without difficulty.
● Inversion increases visualization and, consequently, diagnostic and therapeuticpossibilities, through pro- and retrogradeviewing.
● Combined short size and inversion increasespracticality
● The reduced size and/or length ensures easyhandling (high practicality) in diagnosis andtherapy.
● The short instrument length facilitates and/orenables injection of the tenacious sclerosisagent. A major benefit.
● This results in less traumatic treatment for thepatient and less discomfort in a particularlysensitive area. A decisive advantage!

Video-assisted Anal Fistula andPilonidal Sinus TreatmentMEINERO Technique
The MEINERO VAAFT technique is used for the surgicaltreatment of anal fistulas and their recurrences. Theendoscope allows the precise localization of theinternal fistula opening under visual control, thetreatment of fistulas from the inside, and completeclosure of the internal opening – key points forsuccessful treatment. A new treatment concept is thusprovided, i.e. “fistuloscopy”, which eliminates the needfor preoperative examinations and, therefore, cutscosts. This technique comprises two phases: A
Benefits of the VAAFT technique:● No hospitalization required● Sphincter function retained● No risk of incontinence● Localization and closure of the internal fistula
opening
diagnostic (fistuloscopy) and an operative one.Following fistuloscopy, radical treatment of the primaryand secondary fistula openings is performed undervisual control using a unipolar electrode which ispassed through the working channel of the endoscope. The risk of incontinence is excluded as there is nosphincter injury. The internal fistula opening –depending on the tissue properties – can be closedthrough various methods.
● Complete elimination of the fistula from theinside
● Minimal surgical wounds in the perianal areas● Hardly any post-operative treatment required● Resumption of work possible within a few days
VAAFT (Video-Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment)MEINERO Technique
The MEINERO EPSIT technique is used for the surgicaltreatment of the pilonidal sinus (coccygeal fistula) and itsrecurrences. The endoscope is inserted through a smallincision in the sacrococcygeal area. This enables correctlocalization of the infected area and fistula tracts undervision. A forceps is introduced through the workingchannel of the endoscope to remove any hairs located on
Benefits of the EPSIT technique:● No hospitalization required● Hardly any postoperative pain● Minimal surgical wounds
the pilonidal sinus under visual control. Subsequently, radical treatment is performed using a unipolarelectrode which is passed through the working channelof the endoscope. Necrotic material is removed usingthe fistula brush or a curette. The result is a small incision(depending on the extent of the infected area, two ormore incisions may be required).
● Better quality of life for the patients● Excellent cosmetic results● Quick resumption of normal activities possible

KARL STORZ crotating, dismantling, laparoscopic instruments
Due to the modular c system, the user can individually assemble the desired instrument at any time.
c Instruments, consisting of:● Handle● Outer sheath● Working insert
Nothing could be simpler!
The c series continues the development of in-struments which have proven their value for years. The simplicity of handling and ease with which the in-struments can be cleaned has been improved, in parti-cular with respect to of assembly and disassembly.
When the rear handle is positioned horizontally, thehandle can be separated from the outer sheath and theworking insert at the press of a button. Reassembly isequally reliable and quick. The high frequency connec-tion is mounted in a 45° angle on the upper side of thehandle, thereby ergonomically guiding the high fre-quency cable away from the field of operation.
● Handle● Outer sheath/outer sheath with working insert● Working insert
Available in size 2 to 10 mm,, c instruments can be completely disassembled into separatecomponents:
● Cost-effective – reusable instruments reduce ORcosts per case and simplify inventory management, eliminating the need to store large quantities ofdisposable instruments
● Environmentally correct: If damage occurs, only thecomponent with the defect needs to be replaced –not the entire instrument
● Convenient and ergonomic handling● Cleaning port allows the instrument to be cleaned
without disassembly
This unique, reusable two/three-piece design offers the surgeon the following benefits:
● Available in size 5 with lengths36 and 43 cm
● Choice of handle styles● Fully rotational 360° sheath facilitates easy access
in all clinical situations● No hidden spaces that can trap blood or tissue
debris● Can be dismantled at the press of a button –
reducing instrument cleaning time considerably● Completely autoclavable

WEXNER Operating Rectoscopefor TEO® – Transanal Endoscopic Operations
New endoscopic technology solutions are enhancingthe capabilities of today’s colorectal surgeons, allowinga range of advanced procedures for treating colorectalneoplasia. Transanal endoscopic interventions are be-lieved to offer a viable technique for excision of rectaltumors in certain patients. The method is enhanced bydevelopments in endoscopic instrumentation thatcombine the enhanced visualization offered by super-ior optics with an extended reach that helps enablesurgeons to perform a more complete and precisesurgical excision.
A new system for transanal endoscopic rectal surgerycombines several innovative design features to en-hance functionality when treating rectal tumors. A su-perior optics system provides crystal clear magni-fication and excellent visualization, particularly whencombined with high-definition systems. Furthermore, rather than using a fixed telescope, the new system forTEO® procedures uses a standard 5 mm 30-degreelaparoscope. Once inserted into the proctoscope cap,the 5 mm laparoscope can be moved axially or rotatedfor optimal positioning, then locked in place. In thisway, it allows the surgeon to alter the point of view asneeded to proceed.
Most importantly, while proctoscope caps typicallyhave entry ports that are positioned very close together(placing the instruments more or less in line), the newTEO® system uses distinctively curved instruments. To
offer ergonomic benefits, the instruments have bentshafts that help to keep the handles from colliding asmultiple instruments are used. Instruments for the righthand have handles that curve to the right and tips thatcurve downward. Instruments for the left hand havehandles that curve to the left and tips that curvedownward. This design is useful in preventing thehands from colliding since the space in which theinstruments are being used and manipulated is veryconfined.
The enhanced TEO® system provides a number of keyfeatures and benefits to surgeons:
● Ergonomic instrument design optimizes workingspace by increasing manipulation efficiency
● New TEO® system provides enhanced proctoringenvironment
● New TEO® system allows more cost-effective useas a standard 5 mm 30° laparoscope can be used
● The associated WEXNER c instrumentationcan also be used for standard single-portlaparoscopic operations
● Special suction and irrigation cannula with distalwire tray prevents clogging

LEROY Instrument Setfor Colorectal SurgeryLEROY Anal Dilator, fiber optic light transmission incorporated
This instrument is useful for performing colorectalanastomoses on long rectal stumps, i.e. followingsigmoidectomy or left colectomy as it enables atrau-matic dilation of the anal sphincter and the introductionof a guide tube with an atraumatic stylet at the distalend. This can be easily advanced right up to the baseof the rectal stump. The distal tip of the dilator (thanksto the integrated fiber optic light transmission) is illu-minated, enabling its positioning under laparoscopiccontrol. Following the removal of the dilator, the stapleris introduced and can be ideally positioned at the end
of the anal stump to prevent injuries with the stapler. The anastomosis is performed whereby the guide tuberemains around the stapler. When the anastomosis iscompleted, the entire device is removed.
Laparoscopic positioning of the illuminating end re-places the surgeon’s hand in open surgery to controlthe guide tube.

LEROY Instrument Setfor Colorectal SurgeryLEROY Retractors, for laparoscopic colorectal surgery
Advanced laparoscopic surgery, and laparoscopicrectal surgery in particular, is technically challenging.
One of the key requirements for successfully perform-ing this procedure while respecting oncologicalprinciples is an optimal exposure and, consequently, agood visualization of the surgical site. Particularly forlaparoscopic colorectal surgery involving a complexanatomy (especially in obese male patients), the use ofretractors is vital in order to clearly visualize variousstructures and to enable dissection.
In conjunction with KARL STORZ, various retractortypes were developed to suit various anatomicalconditions. The new generation of extremely stableLEROY retractors (diameter 10 mm) is easy to use andworks with the retraction principle familiar from opensurgery.
The finger-shaped retractors are introduced inextended form. A rotating wheel on the proximal endallows various angles. The distal tip can be angled tomax. 90°.
When introduced via a sub- or suprapubic trocar, theretractors allow anterior traction without increasingpressure on the abdominal wall.
Thanks to the new generation of endoscopic colorectalretractors from KARL STORZ, our conversion rate toopen surgery is less than 3% while achieving onco-logically correct resection in nearly 100% of cases.
Prof. J. LEROY M. D.,Strasbourg, France
Unlike conventional retractors, the LEROY retractors for laparoscopic colorectal surgery are perfectly adapted forthe exposure of anatomical planes (especially in male patients) without interfering with dissection.

etc.) to four independent outputs (monitors, recordingdevices). The MULTISWITCH® unit can be placeddirectly on the videocart and can be upgraded with allFULL HD endoscopy towers from KARL STORZ.
A compact solution enables the straightforward and effi-cient distribution and individual routing of several high-resolution video signals, even without an integrated OR.MULTISWITCH® offers the possibility to administer anddistribute up to 4 DVI sources (camera systems, PC
2. Mode B (router):Distribution of any four sources to any four outputs(monitors, documentation systems). This mode is alwaysuseful if a flexible distribution of individual DVI sourcesto the outputs is necessary.
1. Mode A (switcher):Enables the simple selection of a source and simul-taneous distribution to all four outputs. This mode isused when, during live transmission, an image isswitched from various sources and has to be dis-tributed to all connected monitors.
The MULTISWITCH® features two modes of operation:
● Easy switching or routing of DVI-D sourcesin the OR or during live transmission.
● The simultaneous connection of adocumentation system enables the recordingof up to four sources.
● Convenient distribution of DVI-D sources inthe OR to various monitors or documentationsystems.
Functions and Areas of Application:● Medical-grade routing and changeover solution
for DVI-D signals● Straightforward administration and distribution
of up to four DVI video signals to up to fouroutputs
● Two operating modes – switcher or router● Convenient use via four membrane keyboards.
LEDs on the front panel display the operatingmode in use.

Please note:The high light concentration at the end of the light cable causes heat to be generated in the focal point. The end ofthe light cable should never be placed on the patient's drape or skin as long as the cold light fountain is turned on,since the light intensity could cause burns in the patient or set the drape on fire.
Sterilization and Disinfection:The fiber optic light cables can be sterilized in the autoclave at 273 ° F (134 °C). Gas sterilization is re-commended and chemical disinfection is possible.
