I have been extremelyhappy to see mostly 100% correct uniforms every day this term.Just a friendly reminder that girls are allowed to wear shortshowever can parents and carers please make sure they are ofan appropriate, modest length please. As the weather starts toheat up it is important to have a hat on when outside. Pleasehave your child/ren’s name on your hat to help return it to thecorrect owner if found. The front office can print off iron onname tags for $1.00 for 2 labels.
Measles
There has been some confirmed cases of measles in the localarea. The following is the media release from NSW Health.
NSW Health advises residents in the CoffsHarbour-Woolgoolga area of the Mid-North Coast to be alert forsigns and symptoms of measles infection following diagnosis ofthe illness in an unvaccinated child in the area.
The child is likely to have acquired their infection followingcontact with a recently returned traveller from South East Asia.
The child spent time in Woolgoolga on Tuesday 28 August andthe Coffs Harbour CBD on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30August. Details of specific exposure sites are provided below.
In a media release, Dr Paul Corben, Director of the North CoastPublic Health Unit advised "anyone who was in these locationsshould watch for symptoms. As the investigation is ongoing, other places and times of potential exposure may be identified.People should be alert to symptoms until 17 September."
Dr Corben says it is important for people to see the GP if theyhave symptoms, and limit exposure to others until a diagnosishas been made.
NSW Health recommends people suffering symptoms ofmeasles call ahead to the GP or ED they plan to visit, to advisethem of their symptoms, so their exposure to others can belimited when they arrive.

Successful Grandparents Day
Thank you to all our visitors who came to Grandparents daylast Thursday. All the children loved having their grandparents, nanas, pops, uncles, aunts, mums and dads visiting them inthe classrooms. A huge thank you to our canteen volunteersfor providing a yummy, healthy lunch and afternoon tea. Thiswas our new Canteen committees’ first big event they haveorganised. Well done to all volunteers involved. Well done to allour teaching and non- teaching staff for helping out on the dayand for organising educational and interesting activities for thestudents to share with their visitors. The Dance medley to finishthe day was lots of fun too! This years’ Grandparents Day hasbeen the biggest so far and we hope you can all come backnext year.
Garden Art
In a recent Peer Support lessons our students were involvedin listening to two stories and then completed an art activity. The stories we called “Only One You” and ‘Ishi”. Both thesestories are about being proud of who you are, that you arean individual, recognising feelings and emotions. Ishi is abouthaving one or two solid friends. All students were involved indiscussions around the themes of these books and then gotcreative by creating their very own solid rock friend. Theseworks of art are now featured in our front garden.
Dress like a farmer thank you
We have received a thank you from Quirindi High Schoolagriculture department for our kind donation from the DressLike A farmer Day. Our donation went towards providing muchneeded hay to the cattle at the High School.
Working Bee
A HUGE thank you to the awesome volunteers who helped outour working bee on Saturday.
Healthy Lunch Boxes
All Mullaway Staff have been noticing an increasing amountof students eating pre-packaged food at lunch time. A fewyears ago staff implemented a positive change and made thefirst break of the day lunch and the second break of the dayafternoon break as the children were needing a moresubstantial meal earlier in the day. By having their morenutritional lunch earlier in the day it helps to keep them feelingfull for longer, focused and re-fuelled ready for the next learningsection of the day.
Mullaway staff know we cannot enforce a “ No confectionary”food ban, however we are asking parents, carers and teachersto work together to promote healthy eating and nutrition aswell as modelling moderation with the “sometimes” food. It isDepartment Policy for all schools to promote healthy eating andgood nutrition.
Let’s all work together to promote healthy eating, good nutritionand an active lifestyle wherever possible.
The health and wellbeing of students is relevant to studentslearning and is very important to schools. The present andfuture health of students can be enhanced by quality learning

and positive experiences based around food. Our Kids in theKitchen and Kids in the Garden are other initiatives Mullawayuse to enhance and promote health, nutrition and activelifestyles.
SASS Recognition Week
Our SASS staff celebrated their special week last week with aspecial morning tea, breakfast and some special Super Herocharacters from the students. We hope you enjoyed your weekand thank you for all you do for our school.

New School WebsiteWe have a new school website just launched. Please be awarethat not everything has migrated over from the old website andwe are in the process of updating our information.
Check it out regularly – it looks great.
School HatsCould you please make sure your child’s name is on his or herhat.
The best and most economical way is to have the nameembroidered on the back of the hat, preferably first Name andInitial of last name. This would cost approximately $6.00 perhat, considerably less than purchasing a new hat.
Alternatively, we can print labels on iron-on tape for you to ironon the back and inside of the hat. Please send $1 into the officein a zip lock bag and we print TWO labels for your child to takehome for you to iron on.
School UniformsIf anyone has any second hand uniforms they no longer requireplease consider donating them to our uniform pool.
We are in desperate need to add to our stocks.
Thank you

On Wednesday 29th August our students attended a workshopby Joffa Taylor a cartoonist and author. Students learnt to usecartooning in a positive way, participated in listening activitiesand learnt the importance of using manners. Students wereencouraged to think in a positive way rather than through afixed mindset. Students enjoyed the workshop and we hope tosee it back at Mullaway again in the future.
