Learning WallsLearning Walls
As part of our priority plan in the area of English, we arefocussing on the use of ‘Learning Walls’ in our classrooms. We would like to encourage you to talk with your child aboutwhat they are learning in English at school and how they canuse the Learning Wall to support their learning. In our schoolthe Learning Walls do look different across the year levels andclasses but the consistency between them is:
When you are next in school, ask to see your child’s learningwall and have them explain how they use it.
From our implementation of them this year, it has been soexciting to hear of students even creating their own ‘LearningWalls’ at home!
Here are a few examples of Learning Walls currently beingused.
Resilient Children- a focus on cybersafetyResilient Children- a focus on cybersafety
We have been provided with a wonderful opportunity to hosta face to face parenting seminar conducted by ‘Triple P’ hereat our school hall on Tuesday 16 November 3:15-4:45pm. Thesession will also cover cybersafety, which we know is suchan important thing as adults to know about, as more of ourchildren are engaging online.
The session can help you:• Co-constructed student-friendly Know and Do chart
(WHAT will the students learn about, what will theyDO with what they learn about)
• Copy of the assessment task (if appropriate)
• Marking Guide (MG) on what the students will beassessed on- there are no surprises
• An A exemplar (at year level) of what they canachieve and what makes it an ‘A’.
• Vocabulary chart (words used in the unit) andstudent-friendly glossary
• Co-created examples and annotated student worksamples - related to what students are using and canrefer back to as they complete their unit of study.
• Problem-solve with your children how to stay safeand manage risks online

• Although the resource lists are generated throughSequel, families are welcome to take the list to anyretail store to buy stationery and books.
• The resource lists are ‘Starter Resource Lists’ inorder to supply your child with the essentials to startthe new school year and to prevent over ordering.Should new supplies be needed due to usage orloss, a Stationery Request Form will be sent homethroughout the year to notify you of items needed tobe replaced.
• By now, your child should have brought home aStationery Inventory Form to give you an indication ofthe condition of retainable items (e.g. headphones)and excess materials that can be used the followingyear.
