Year 5/6 Canberra Excursion
Principals Report Year 5/6 Excursion Year 5/6 students headed off on Tuesday morning bright and early for their Year 5/6 excursion to Canberra for 4 days. Mrs Tait tells me the students thoroughly enjoyed the bus trip and National Canberra Exhibition as well as the famous Canberra gelato ice creams. Cricket Program Our very own Connor Thornton is conducting a cricket skills program on Friday for four weeks. Connor as well as being a very competent cricket player, has completed a professional training course enabling him to present a cricket skills development program. Our Bluearth program will continue on the alternate Mondays starting Monday of week 1. Kindergarten Transition Program Next Friday, our eight week Kindergarten Transition Program begins. Mrs Arnold will work with our prospective 2019 Kindergarten students from 9am to 11.15 each Friday for the next eight weeks. This is a great introduction to our school for our new prospective students. Mrs Arnold will be helped by our Year 5 students who will be the 2019 Kinder buddies. All students will have an amazing time, it’s a valuable introduction to the school environment. Welcome to Sophia Berrigan Public School would like to welcome new student Sophia Wyatt. Sophia is settling into our school very well and will be joining Mrs Tait’s Year 5 students when they return from the Canberra school excursion.
School Assembly This term our weekly school assembly will be held every Friday at 9am followed by choir practice. Parents/carers are welcome to come along to our assemblies.
Amaroo Visits This term we have initiated weekly visits to Amaroo Aged Care. Each week 8 Year 5/6 students will walk up to Amaroo with Chaplain, Val Head and myself. They will join in the bowling session with the residents from 10am to 11am. No Hat, play in the shade It is wonderful to see how proactive the students are being with making sure they are wearing their hats whenever they are outside. BPS is a Sunwise School and it is that time of the year, when it is our policy to wear hats. Students who do not wear hats are asked to stay under shelter, out of the sun. Our students are very conscious of this health safety issue and have an excellent reputation for following this policy. School Photos Tuesday 30th October, our annual school photos will be taken. All students will receive a labelled order form next week. All school photo orders must now be done online then the form returned to the school office. MSP Photography will no longer accept cash for your school photos. Please Note: a $20 fee will apply to any orders received after photo day. School Merit Award System As mentioned in a newsletter at the start of the year, you need six School Merit Awards to receive a Principal’s award. Principal’s Awards will be made on a Semester basis. Semester 2 Principal’s Awards are for merit awards received in Term 3 & Term 4. Merit awards cannot be carried over from Semester 1 to Semester 2. When students have received their 6 School Merit Awards from this semester, please bring them into the school front office for recording. Breakfast Club There will be Breakfast Club this Thursday morning. Dorothy Dore & Tanya Saraikin Principals

TTFM Parent Survey This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, ipads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 21
st August and 13
th October.
Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/yhh9t
