Why is college and career Readiness important?
Large percentage of students never complete high school– 2012 U.S. high school graduation rate was 80%– Each year, 1M kids in the U.S. fail to graduate from high school in time
Students who drop out:– Earn $1M less over their lifetime– 3x more likely to be unemployed– 2x more likely to live in poverty– More likely to have poor health– More likely to be on public assistance– More likely to be single parents

Many dropouts can be prevented School Performance and Engagement are significant
risk factors for school dropout According to a 2006 study by the Gates Foundation:
– 45% said thee started high school poorly prepared by their earlier schooling
– 47% of dropouts said classes were not interesting– 70% were not motivated or inspired to work hard– Thirty-five percent said that “failing in school” was a major
factor for dropping out
