Dear Members,
I hope all of you have had some special vacation time this summer. It
is hard to believe that three fourths of this year is gone! A lot has been
accomplished by your Board of Directors. We have had some wonder-
ful painting opportunities. There is still more to come!
Three more Paint-Ins are scheduled: September with Carol
Mundwiller, October with Karen Lewis and November with Dixie
Thorne. I hope many of you will be able to attend all three.
Our yearly fundraiser is underway. We have several items donated for
the raffle. Carla is putting together a flyer with pictures and tickets
(see pages 6 & 7). This will be available on-line for you to print and
sell . If each of us sells twenty four tickets we can make enough profit
to support our outreach and painting projects. There will be prizes for
the most tickets sold. I will bring the projects for you to see at the Sep-
tember meeting. The drawing will be held at the December luncheon.
It is time for elections again. If you would be willing to serve on the
board next year, please let me know. There are several positions open.
We need officers to help plan for the continuing activities of Poinsettia
Painters.
Willeen, Cathy V and I will be in Seattle at the Hats off to Painting
Convention in September. We are looking forward to some wonderful
classes and projects. We will be wearing a hat for one of the parties.
We will take lots of pictures to bring back.
Be sure to bring your coffee cup to the September meeting.

THREE WAYS TO BAKE THE BEST “BAKED POTATO”
1. Oven-Baked Potatoes - Pre-heat the oven to 425°F. Rub the potatoes with olive oil, sprinkle
them with salt and pepper, and prick them with the tines of a fork. You can lay them directly on the
oven rack or place them on a baking sheet. Cook the potatoes for 45-60 minutes, until their skin is
crispy and sticking one with a fork meets no resistance. Bottom line: Crispy potato skins!
2. Potatoes Wrapped in Foil - Follow the same directions as for oven-roasted potatoes, but wrap the potatoes in foil before cooking. Bottom line: Softer skin, plus the potatoes stay warm in their foil if you're still working on the topping or need to save a potato for a late family member.
3. Microwaved Potatoes - Rub the potatoes with olive oil, sprinkle them with salt and pepper, and prick them with the tines of a fork. Place all the potatoes on a microwave-safe dish and microwave at full power for five minutes. Turn them over and microwave for another 3-5 minutes. If still hard in the middle, microwave in additional 1-minute bursts until cooked through. Bottom line: Super-fast cooking time with soft skins.

Heart boxes for Indigent Children in Ventura County has been one of our Out-

general meeting on October 8. Last year the boxes mostly went to the Interface
Program. Conejo Woodworkers cut the boxes for us to paint & decorate. The
boxes were given to children of all ages, male or female. For some of these chil-
dren this is the only gift they receive at Christmas time. Be sure to come to the
October meeting to help Barbara Masci make this year better than ever!

PINS FROM THE HEART
The November 9th meeting
we will be painting pins for
Ann Hoehimer’s hats. The
hat pins can be any design you would like to
do. We will be painting the pins for cancer
survivors that have had treatments & have
lost their hair. The pins decorate a simple
hat they receive from the different hospitals,
clinics and doctors office’s. There is no cost
to the patient and they are truly hats and
pins from our hearts. Please plan on paint-
ing a pin or two. There also will be some to
take home to paint to bring back the next
meeting.
