Safety● At Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School, a Miami-Dade County
Public Schools district managed charter school, the wellbeing, safety, and health of our children, their families, our employees, and our community are our highest priority.
● After thoughtful and diligent consideration, and in conjunction with guidelines from the CDC and Florida Department of Health, DDCES will begin the 2020 - 2021 school year virtually. Once a physical return commences, DDCES has developed policies and procedures which can help protect students, teachers, administrators, and staff and slow the spread of COVID-19. These policies and procedures have been outlined in our Reopening of Schools Action Plan.

Remote Learning Attendance Policy● During Virtual Learning students will adhere to the traditional in
school schedule, yet from the safety of their own homes.● Students are expected to begin the school day by 8:30am and will
remain in school virtually until 4:00 pm. Wednesdays are early release days at 3:00pm.
● Students are to report to their homeroom class via Zoom just as they would when physically reporting to class. Punctuality is important!
● Students will be expected to log out and log in to the different zoom sessions throughout the day. Teachers will be demonstrating the process to the students on a frequent basis, but we ask that you please practice this task at home before the first day of school. This will ensure a successful transition for all.
● Students are to attend their Zoom class using their full name. .

Zoom Classroom Norms
● The student MUST enter the zoom class using their full name.
● Students must maintain their camera on at all times.
● The camera must be focused on the child, so the teacher can see the students full face.
● Be prepared for each class with all your necessary supplies.
● Be sure to work in an area that is free of any distractions.
Zoom Classroom Norms● For the safety of each child, no student will be accepted into
the Zoom class session unless their full name appears. It is recommended that you verify your child's name upon entry.
● If the teachers Zoom freezes/disconnects, the student must place themselves in the waiting room, or leave the Zoom session, and log back in. The teacher will readmit the students to the class upon reconnection
● Students should not share any personal passwords so as to ensure no one other than the parent, student, and teachers have access to their accounts.

Homework Policy
As per the DDCES Homework Policy:
K & 1st Grade: 30 minutes per night, five days2nd & 3rd Grade: 45 minutes per night, five days
4th and 5th Grade: 60 minutes per night, five days
These times do not reflect the additional 30 minutesof required reading for all students K-5. Participation
in the Dual Language Program and/or Gifted Program often requires additional home learning
assignments on a daily basis.

Volunteer InformationDDCES Volunteers:
At DDCES, our parent volunteers play a crucial role. At this time, however, we will limit volunteering to a virtual mode. Parents may opt to offer their time and expertise via Zoom sessions as required and requested by teachers.
***All Volunteers must be cleared by the school, through the online volunteer website, before having any contact with students. This applies to both in person as well as virtual contact. Ms. Ramirez and Ms. Camacho in the main office can assist with this process.

Room Parent Selection Room parents play a vital role in assisting the classroom teacher throughout the School year in various ways. This year we will continue to utilize room parents for each class, as their assistance is vital.
Room Parent Selections will be declared on August 28th, 2020.
If you are interested in playing a vital role in your child's class, be sure to contact your homeroom teacher to express your interest no later than August 26th, 2020.
September 2nd will be the first room parent meeting.

Second Grade
Daily Health ScreeningAll administrators, staff and faculty members will be required to take their temperatures daily prior to commencing the workday. Parents will be responsible for taking their child’s temperature daily prior to the commencement of the school day. Although visitors will have limited access to our campus, once on our grounds, they will be subjected to a temperature check.
As an immediate response to protect the health and safety of our workforce, Downtown Doral Charter Schools will immediately notify all stakeholders if a student or faculty member
has tested positive for COVID-19.
School Policies
While on Campus -Personal Protective Equipment:The use of school approved masks is required for all individuals while on campus. Masks must be used before, during and after school, except while eating or drinking.
Water Bottles:Our school has acquired water bottle fillers, therefore water fountains will not be available. Please provide your child a labeled water bottle to us during class.
Celebrations:Due to our current climate we will not have any type of birthday celebrations (snacks or beverages) this year.
Computer Labs and desktop computers are off limits this year.

Dress Code
Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School has a mandatory uniform policy.

Attendance Policy Attendance is ESSENTIAL to be successful in school!
● After 8:30 AM the student will be considered TARDY. Students will be picked up from the cafeteria at 8:15 AM.
● If your child is ABSENT an excused note must be sent to the teacher no later than 3 days after the absence.● You must provide a doctor or a parent note for the absence to be considered
excused. ● Excused absences include illness, death in the family, or for religious reasons. Visa
concerns are not considered excused absences. ● You may not take out your child 30 minutes before dismissal time.
Arrival Procedures Staggered Arrival/Dismissal Procedures:
Drive Thru Drop Off Option for Students: Select teachers, office personnel, safety and security monitors, and administrators will be on hand to ensure the safety of our students. These individuals will remind parents to remain in their cars during drop off and will ensure that students are wearing the required face masks. Students who are dropped off at the drive thru will be asked to access the building through the South side entrance and will be encouraged to retrieve a bagged breakfast made available to them at designated areas.
Pedestrian Option: Students Who Walk to School: Preschool walkers will access the building through the North entrance of the school. Elementary walkers will access the building through the main entrance of the school. Once inside, our safety and security monitors will ensure that all students are wearing their required face masks and will encourage students to retrieve a bagged breakfast made available to them at designated areas.

School Dismissal
School Wide DismissalThis year we will be implementing School Dismissal Manager, a dismissal software that will be used to facilitate our student departure from campus in which parents will remain in their vehicles and their child will be safely loaded onto his/her vehicle. By using School Dismissal Manager as our dismissal platform, it will prevent students from gathering in large groups to ensure the safety and health of all students.

Picking up Students Early Prior to Dismissal Parents who choose to pick up their child early prior to dismissal must adhere to all physical distancing protocol established to the greatest extent possible. The parent must remain in his/her car and must call the school’s main office to ensure if there is adequate physical distance to the greatest extent possible to safely enter the building. A face mask must be worn, and your temperature will be taken by office personnel as you enter the main office.
Lunch Procedures
Lunch will be in the classroom
● This reopening plan ensures the continuity of the provision of free/reduced meals for applicable students in all learning models.
● Pre-packaged lunches will be provided for those who want school lunch
● Each child should bring a small labeled bag with a healthy and quick snack on a daily basis.
● Snack time will take place after specials
● DDCES is a Peanut free school.
Co Curricular Activities
At DDCES, we value and encourage participation in co-curricular activities. Although we intend to provide meaningful opportunities for students to engage in co-curricular pursuits such as drama, chorus, competitive clubs, service clubs and more, the scope and exact nature of those engagements will vary across activities, and these pursuits may look different to ensure the safety of all participants.
