The Plan of Discipleship 2 Timothy 2:2
God’s plan for the growth of
the Church
Plan for Discipleship
Jesus’ command to his disciples
(Matt. 28:19-20)
Plan for Discipleship
GO to the people of all
nations
Plan for Discipleship
Go to them; don’t just wait
for them to come to church
Plan for Discipleship
Make them my DISCIPLES.
Plan for Discipleship
Not just converts !
Plan for Discipleship
Baptize them!
Plan for Discipleship
Teach them to OBEY my
commands!
Plan for Discipleship
EVERY Christian is to be involved in
LIVING for Christ!
Plan for Discipleship
Every Christian is to be
involved in clearly
SHARING the Gospel message
with the unsaved.
Plan for Discipleship
Every Christian is to be involved in
DISCIPLING converts to
maturity, so they can disciple
others.
Plan for Discipleship
The problem:
Plan for Discipleship
Most churches are more
concerned about
EVANGELISM than
discipleship.
Plan for Discipleship
Most churches do not have a PLAN for
discipleship
When converts are not
discipled, they are likely
to lose PASSION;
When converts are not discipled, they are unlikely to pass on their
FAITH to family or friends,
resulting in later generations
turning away from GOD
And the eventual “DEATH” of local
congregations
Paul’s teaching about
Discipleship (2 Timothy 2:2)
“And the things which you have heard
from me in the presence of many
witnesses, these entrust to
faithful men, who will be able to teach
others also.”
Be taught (mentored) the ESSENTIALS of
the faith (2 Tim.1:13-14)
Do you know Christ
personally?
Are you a student of
God’s Word?
Are you teachable?
Are you growing in
knowledge?
Can you discern false teaching from
the truth of God’s Word?
Do you know what “things” are essentials
for new believers?
Do you know how one
becomes a mature
Christian?
Are you accountable to a more mature
believer?
Do you SHARE what you learned
about being a believer with
others so they can do the
same?
Are you being an EXAMPLE of what a true Christian
should be? (part of
discipleship) (1 Cor. 11:1)
Have you PRAYED that God would
lead you to someone to disciple?
(Lk. 6:12-13)
Are you faithfully passing on God’s TRUTHS to those
around you?
Someone with whom you have a RELATIONSHIP, not a stranger
Men with men, women with
women
Someone who is already a person
of faith & FAITHFULNESS.
How to pass on SKILLS:
I do it- you watchI do it- you helpYou do it- I help
You do it- I watchYou do it.
ENCOURAGE your disciple to
disciple someone else.
The result
Believers grow in
MATURITY.
People are SAVED.
Believers are trained
Leaders are developed for
SERVICE in the church
Multiplication grows the
church Acts 6:1, 7; 9:31
