Northern Rock were offering borrowers 125% of their homes’ value. i just can’t believe it. i know it’s a little late to be making such a comment but, on reading the sunday Papers this week, the ludicrous fact that this was a catalyst for the economic downturn and housing slowdown really bedded in. it’s amazing that common sense didn’t prevent the firm (and subsequently our economy) from having such a catastrophic hiccup.
The positive thing is that economic forecasters are now predicting that we will see the property market stabilise towards the end of this quarter. With an injection of sense banks now realise that a sensible deposit, rather than none at all, may prevent us (and them) from getting shafted. as lending begins to recover, they are adding much needed oil to the wheels of the property market, this time with the engine in a sensible gear. That’s reassuring to home buyers. With new found sense after a bit of a shock we can start to think about buying, selling and investing again.
If you’ve been waiting to move on, now is the time to take advantage of the great interest rates, particularly if you’re considering a share transfer (see Tara’s comment on page 11)Good luck house hunting over the following pages and remember, tell them you saw it in places.
