What is Personal IM?
The 1st step for operators to enhance their present messaging services, to include:
– Threaded conversations – Multi-party/Group messaging – Presence
As for all Person to Person communication services, interoperability remains key for a successful service.
GSMA’s role has focused on facilitating and accelerating interoperability, as well as experience sharing to ensure:
– Country wide interoperability – Potential barriers are identified and overcome – A smooth path to service success

What is it all about?
Personal IM is all about…
– Creating connected IM Communities instead of silos
– Driving usage through interoperability (network effects)
– Maintaining the customer relationship (using existing customer address)
– Bringing IM to the world’s largest existing community not creating a new one
Mobile is already the world’s largest messaging community. Let’s take new services & features to our existing community.
Remember, text-based IM is just the beginning!
