the implementation of the plan. We
urge Government as a coordinating
agency to put in more efforts in the
implementation.”
The Worst Forms of Child Labour does not
only threaten the very being of a child but
also national advancement. We therefore
call upon all of you to join in this fight as
we work towards the global goal of
eliminating the WFCL child by 2016.

Mr. Alexio Musindo gave his speech:
UYDEL youth and children presented a skit on child labour
“One child working is already too many”
The Director expressed ILO’s belief that the NAP will be
used as a framework for guiding action at the National
and local level. That it will be translated into the District
Action Plans for concrete implementation of activities
at local government level.
He acknowledged and appreciated the leadership of the
MGLSD and the participation of FUE, NOTU, COFTU and
all key stakeholders in the development of the NAP. He
thanked them in advance for their collaboration in
translating the plan into reality.
The US Ambassador’s Representative
Mr. Aaron “Tennessee” Carlton
emphasized the US efforts to stop exploitative
child labour in Uganda and around the world.
He focused on three key facets, namely
Education, Poverty and Awareness.
“Every child – every girl and boy - deserves
a chance to develop his or her full potential”

The MC invited Mrs. Christine Guwatudde
the Permanent Secretary MGLSD to give her speech.
She then invited the Chief Guests to deliver their speeches:
Hon. Kamanda Bataringaya Minister of State for Primary Education
…the most effective way to tackle child labour is through the provision of quality education.
He appreaciated MGLSD taking the lead in the elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour.
He pledged the support of the MOES.
Special thanks went to Ms. Akky de Kort (left) Chief Technical Advisor and Ms. Jackie Banya (right), Senior Programme Officer (ILO/IPEC Kampala) for their commitment and work towards the development of the NAP.
“The Plan is a strategic framework that will set the stage for mobilizing policy makers and the public to act and to intensify awareness raising activities at all levels in order to promote understanding of the risks, consequences and strategies for addressing child labour.
It will also provide a basis for resource mobilization,
reporting, monitoring and evaluation and measurement of performance and progress of the interventions aimed at
combating child labour.
