PHYSICS INVESTIGATORY PROJECT ON
LOW RESISTANCE PATH USING A DIODE
Do you know that the current flowing in a circuit is selecAve in nature? If there are two paths for a current, it will choose the one with a lower
resistance. Using this circuit, you will analyze how it actually happens.
In this project, you will need a breadboard, a diode, a resistor, an LED and a few connecAng wires. The connecAons are made such that the resistor is connected to the parallel combinaAon of the LED and the diode. Upon the compleAon of the
circuit, the LED starts glowing. In this case, the LED is forward biased and the diode is reverse biased.
However, if the connecAons are reversed, the LED
turns OFF. In this case, both the LED and the diode are forward biased and sAll the LED does not glow.
The reasoning of the phenomena is inferred by doing the currents’ path analysis and analyzing the threshold voltages at which the LED and the diode become forward biased.
