Physical MetallurgistResearches, develops, controls and provides advice onprocesses for casting, alloying, heat treating or welding refinedmetals, alloys and other materials to produce commercial metalproducts or develop new alloys and processes. 

Tasks conducts studies of metals and alloys before and duringprocessing to evaluate their propertiesexamines metal processing techniques to ensure thatquality is maintained, improve processing or developnew techniquestests alloys to study their properties and checkcompliance with prescribed standardscompiles, records and manipulates data fromexperiments and observationsconsults with engineers to develop economicalmanufacturing methods for alloys, minimise air andwater pollution and to set up inspection and testingproceduresadvises operations personnel on production techniques,quality control systems and specifies temperatures,mixtures and other factors in the production processsupervises and coordinates the work of technicians andother workers
