Thomas Robinson Consulting Ltd. is seeking an individual to work full time in Out of Home Care & Youth in Transition Programs providing support to families and youth. This position is based in Smithers with travel to the Hazeltons. It is full time (25 hours per week) with benefits.
JOB SUMMARY Provide short term, intensive, in-home services to assist families in skill building to reduce risk factors and develop parenting capacity. Provide youth (16 to 18) a path to self-sufficiency; support to bridge the transition to adulthood. Services will be delivered in the family’s home, and community, utilizing available resources.
Qualifications /Experience:
Post-secondary certificate in human service, social service or related field with a minimum of one (1) year of experience
Experience working with families and youth demonstrating an understanding of theory and principles of family support practice
Strong knowledge of Aboriginal Culture and experience working in Indigenous Communities
Experience working with low-income, multicultural high-risk families and older youth
Have knowledge of child /youth development
Familiarity with community resources available to families and youth in Smithers and Hazelton
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
Professional disposition and acumen to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employers, partner agencies, and committees
Ability to work independently
Strong written and verbal skills
Word processing and basic excel computer skills
A valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract and reliable vehicle & willing to travel between communities
Willing to submit to a criminal record check
Commitment to obtaining Privacy and CPI training

Kispiox Community School is located within traditional Gitxsan Territory on the beautiful northwest interior of B.C. and services the small community of Kispiox and surrounding areas. We have one K-7 elementary school. Our student population is approximately 100 students, 90% of which are aboriginal. Kispiox is a 250 person First Nations community approximately 14 km north of Hazelton, B.C. This picturesque community enjoys having a modern, well equipped, progressive school within the village.
Summary of main job requirements: Prepare the intermediate class lessons: teach the intermediate class academic
subjects on par with new BC curriculum. Prepare & Update Individual Education Plans. Incorporate cultural knowledge and activities into the curriculum in collaboration
with the Language and Culture Teacher. A thorough knowledge of and respect for the aboriginal culture and history of the area and the issues facing aboriginal students today; Demonstrated ability to make content relevant and engaging to the rural learner and participate in outdoor education; Experience using technology and web-based resources in instruction including
Smartboards, IPads, Reading and Math Academy;
Knowledge and experience or willing to learn core programs and assessments:
