Groups on the periodic table Vertical groups on the periodic table share
similar properties: 1. They all have the s_____ number of e_____
in their o______ s_____. 2. They share similar r_______ properties. 3. Metals become more r______ as they move
down a g_____ and non-metals become less reactive as they move down the group.
4. Groups are m_____ r________ on the outside of the table.
Important groups- colour these groups on the periodic table (each a different colour).
Alkali metals- (group 1). Alkali earth metals- (group 2). Transition metals- (group 3-11). Halogens- (group 17). Nobel gases/inert gases- (group 18).
Copy these notes under the table you have coloured in.
Alkali metals-(group 1). Highly reactive and never found in element form in nature.
Alkali earth metals- (group 2). High melting point, found in element form in nature.
Halogens- (group 7). Highly reactive and only found in the environment as compounds.
Nobel gases/inert gases- (group 8). Unreactive because they have a full outer shell.
