Called Meeting of the Congregation:
A meeting of the Congregation was held on Sunday, February 17, following 11:00
Worship. Changes in terms of call to the Pastor were approved. At-large
members elected to the 2013 Church Officer Nominating Committee are
Veronika Camehl, Ed Rainwater, and Debbie Shedden. Copies of the Proposed
Bylaws were distributed for first reading.
Wednesday Night Supper and Study
Join us each Wednesday at 5:30 for supper and at 6:00 as we continue our study of
Paul’s Letters to the Corinthians.
Adult Sunday School
Adults meet in the Café at 9:30 each Sunday Morning. We are currently surveying some of the important
characters in the biblical narrative.
Lenten Lunches:
The Aransas County Ministerial Association is again sponsoring a series
of community gatherings each Wednesday during the season of Lent.
Host churches serve a light lunch beginning at noon (a love offering is
accepted to help defray costs), and the host pastor offers a brief
devotional around 12:30. The schedule follows:

One of the main focal points of the Sanctuary renovation this past Summer was to
make certain the wonderful stained glass windows in the Chancel area would be very
noticeable as one walked into the Sanctuary. As the Long Range Planning Committee
worked toward this end during the planning stages, no thought was ever given to the
appearance of the windows at night time, until later on when attending a night service
after the renovation was completed. It was at this point it was realized that without
any daylight, the windows did not show up at all.
Due to Al DeGayner furnishing material and his own man power, there are now three exterior high
wattage spot lights installed on posts directed at each of the windows. This now allows the
windows to radiate all of their splendor on overcast days or at night when services or other
activities are held.
Unfortunately the power surge in January that wrecked havoc on the church also damaged the
power source to the new lights. It was not discovered in time to repair before the Ash Wednesday
worship service … but it has now, so please take a moment to notice, enjoy and appreciate the
backlit stained glass windows while attending this month’s Maundy
Thursday and Good Friday Worship services ….
… and join us in saying “Thanks Al for all you do!”

“EASTER BONNETS & BREAKFAST” will be on Easter Sunday morning (March 31st) during the regular time for Sunday School (come & go from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.). Bring a breakfast dish (fruit, eggs, muffins, sausage, etc) and come to the Fellowship Hall on Easter Sunday morning. Just for fun, wear a funny or unusual “Easter Bonnet” and enter in the Easter Parade at 10 o’clock. Remember....“ANYTHING GOES” !!
Fellowship Lunch …
… on March 10th will feature HAM as
the entrée and the congregation is asked to
bring side dishes, salads and desserts. The
Fellowship Committee will furnish the ham.
Tea and coffee will also be provided.
So bring a dish to share and join us after the
11:00 Morning Worship Service in the
Fellowship Hall for a delicious Ham lunch.

Carolyn Watters has enthusiastically
agreed to be our Vacation Bible School
director this summer. Carolyn is multi-
talented and energetic, and combined with
the energetic team from Presbyterian
Childrens' Home-Waxahatchie campus, it
promises to be a fantastic, fun-filled VBS.
The kids are already asking about it!
Of course, we'll need lots of volunteers,
so, say YES to VBS!
The dates are July 22 - 26.

Ed and Lucille Rainwater will serve as head ushers for the month of March. Once again we are blessed to have Jeff Patterson and his lovely wife, Georgia, back with us. The relief that he gives to our very dedicated music director Yvonne goes above and beyond the call of duty. If you missed the Ash Wednesday worshp service, his keyboard talents left many speechless. Where did you have all those guitar players hiding Jeff? Speaking of music, Yvonne and her dedicated choir members are practicing very hard to make “a joyful noise unto the Lord”....maybe you would consider lending your musical talents. We hear some wonderful voices out there in the congregation on Sunday mornings....think how great they might sound from up in the choir loft with our super sound system. And remember, the hand bell choir only requires you to be able to count to 4 and if you decide to color code your music, remember which color applies to which bell. The worship committee welcomes your input...we strive to make all aspects of worship meaningful and relevant. If something is not being done that you think we need to do, please let us know. If there are problems, please be a part of the solution and contact one of the committee members. Women Ministering to Women…
Women, opportunities for growth and service and a time to
have fellowship with other women in the church continue in
the month of March. Please mark your calendars for the
following experiences.
1. PW monthly meeting will be Tuesday, March 5 at 10 am in the parlor. Come and join us as we update
ourselves on plans for our year together. Caroline Bernardy reported that PW had given $32,000 + our pledge
to the church in 2012. (This did not include the Charlie’s discretionary fund nor the
youth monthly amount.)
2. PW Circle Meeting will be Tuesday, March12 at 12 in the parlor. Pati Vincent
leads our study of the Epistles, entitled Living in a Community and the Household of
God. We are ready for Chapter 7. Bring a sack lunch, and come share in the learning
and discussion.
3. Quilters will meet on Tuesday, March 19 from 9-12 to work on prayer quilts. We will also
begin our work on graduate quilts for gifts. Please, come enjoy the fellowship and the sewing!
4. Our women are at Castaways On Mondays (8-3) and Thursdays (8-11) every
week. There is plenty to do and the jobs are easy to learn! Please join us for a really a
fun time with other women, and of course, with those men who keep us hopping! Hope
to see you there on Monday /Thursday mornings. Theresa Smith will be placing another order for
shirts if you didn’t get in on the first order. Talk to her! Our earnings for January was $9950.21.
YEAH!!! (Thanks for all your donations!)
5. VeeAnn Wright reported for Good Samaritans that First Saturday Breakfasts have been stopped. Also, new
clients are signing up all the time, and always need food. So, remember your donations on the first Sunday of
each month!
6. Neet Feet bought 7 pairs of shoes in January and so far 2 pairs in February.
7. Information on the BEAS program was reported by Kay Patteson. Divina Mireles is our new candidate who
we will be assisting with books and other needs. Also, Kay reported helping Adriana Rios, a student who lost her
funding, with $483.
6. Women’s Retreat was February 9 from 9-3 with about 30 women sharing learning and craft time. You Are
Already Amazing was the topic for the day..
7. Mo Ranch Conference will be April 5-7. We have 19 women going from our church.
8. If you haven’t paid $15 for your poinsettia, you can make your Check payable to PW and place it in
the offering basket on Sunday.
9. VBS is on the calendar!!!! It will be July 22-26 with Carolyn Watters directing. YEAH, Carolyn! 10. Decisions made at January meeting: a. Voted to give Peggy Thompson a Love Gift of $100 from PW for doing the shirts and aprons. b. Voted to increase help with Castaways Building Fund to another 5% making our contribution to the fund 10%
of our earnings. c. Voted to deliver fresh flowers to Flo Griffith for her 91 birthday. Caroline will take them to the Rockport Care
Center. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FLO!!! d. We continue to take $300 to each of our five schools for students’
uniformed clothing needs. e. We will be hosting the Lenten Lunch for March 13. Please watch
for the sign- up sheet to help with sandwiches, chips, or cookies.
Also, we will need hosts/hostesses. If you have a blue Presbyterian
Church, WEAR IT to host/hostess that day!! Presbyterian Women

The Presbyterian Men’s group resumed their monthly meetings for lunch on the first
Tuesday of each month at 12:00 in the Church café. The meeting is open to any man
that attends our Church- you don’t have to be a member. So try to be there on Tuesday, March
5th and enjoy lunch (Really good food) and camaraderie followed by a short business meeting. We
are always finished in an hour or less. Come, enjoy, and make new friends. Our winter visitors are
especially welcome since we always are open to new ideas.
We will discuss what we plan to accomplish in 2013, kickoff ideas for our
participation in the 12th annual Rockport Nautical Flea Market (our major fund
raiser) and what benevolences we need to support in the immediate future. Hope to

Ministering to … others in the Community
GOOD NEWS! The Youth Group of First Presbyterian Church,
Rockport participated in the National Souper Bowl of Caring on super
bowl Sunday. Because of our support for their efforts, $335 was
donated to Rockport/Fulton Good Samaritans.
During January and February, Rockport/Fulton Good Samaritans
continued serving our community. The arrival of cold weather found
clients needing funds for heaters, blankets and warmer clothes. In
addition, more food was required to help keep some Rockport residents warm until the sun retured.
The drop in outside temperatures increased utility bills. Requests for assistance in paying those bills
put pressure on the GS budget. More assistance was required to help with costs of medical care and
drug prescriptions to combat illness as several nasty viruses ran rampant through our community.
The food pantry is busy recovering from drains in supplies used in
distribution of Christmas baskets in December. First Presbyterian Church’s
donation of $335 will be put to good use!
Now that holiday travelers have returned home to Rockport and holiday
guests have returned to their homes, the time has come to return to our
normal concentration on and donations to support local missions including
Good Samaritans.
The first Sunday of each month is designated the day for collecting
donations for use in supplying supplemental food to needy local families. Good Samaritans are
extremely grateful for our congregation’s most generous donations that provide non-perishable foods
and money for purchasing additional foods from the Corpus Christie food bank and locally that enable
restocking the GS food pantry.
PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR SUPPORT OF THIS MISSION PROJECT. Your non-perishable food items
can be placed in the baskets in the Good Samaritans section in the Mission Room the first or any
Sunday. Your monetary donation can be inserted in the envelopes provided and placed in the collection
plate or handed in at the church office any day of the week.

THE COMMUNITY TABLE
The March schedule for food preparation & serving is as follows:

March 5th is our Church’s serving date. Please put it on your personal calendar because we will need a lot
of volunteers to handle the numbers of diners who have been attending (approximately 250-300). Please
come and see what a difference we are making in the lives of our less fortunate neighbors.
Big News- The Peace Lutheran Church has been able to rejoin the Community Table as a full time
participant again and served an excellent meal on February 19th. However, we still have issues filling
some of the unfilled Tuesdays. Our sister churches in Rockport are stepping up to the challenge by
volunteering to serve on some of the open dates, but we are still in dire need of one more church /
agency to become full Community Table partners to permanently resolve the problem. I am counting of
you and your connections with other churches or service organizations to spread the word that we need
help. I will welcome an opportunity to speak to any interested party.
During the months of January and February, 2013, we served approximately 280
people per Tuesday and we have had plenty of help with serving. Thank you all for
your assistance and don’t use this information to stop helping . A special thanks to
our Winter Visitors who show up to help no matter which church is serving. The
smaller churches are grateful for your help.
Our Community Table funding had a major boost because of the generous donations
which many of you gave over the holiday season. This is truly a wonderful church
filled with caring and kind people. I’m proud to be a member, aren’t you?

Odds and Ends…..
GardenTales… As I walked past the little garden going wild in front of the church, I realized that we had just let it go its own way without a little TLC over the winter. While I am aware that technically we are still in the winter season, Rockport has not gotten the memo and things are begin-ning to bud out all over! So in the next few weeks, we will remove the weeds and freshen up the mulch and give it a new face to welcome us each time we walk by. Isn’t that like our own lives? We fall into seasons of ne-glect for those things that are on the fringes of our lives….important, but not essential. We get caught up in areas that take our time and energy away from the things that we love and provide joy in our lives. So join me in doing a little weeding and freshening up, not only of the garden but also of your heart. Look at yourself as I am doing and refresh your spirit. Take time to think about what God really wants you to be doing and choose whatever tools you think you might need to enter a new season in your life. Like the sun breaks through the clouds, let your light shine forth for Him and feel the tangled vines of our daily life fall away from your heart. Greet this new season of spring with faith and knowledge that God walks with you even when the weeds try to trip you up! And by the way, we are hoping to freshen up the plants around the church in other areas. Let us know if you would like to “dig in” and if you see Mike…thank him for all that he is doing outside!
