Finding Design Inspiration in the Architecture Library – Library Assignment

Match the description to the correct location in the Architecture Library.

Reference Collection (ARCH-Reference) Visit the Reference Collection. Take some time to browse the shelves and look at the books in this area. Select a book on an architect that interests you (start @ NA730 – NA 1608). Record the architect’s name, title of the book, and LC call number. Stacks (8th floor)

Go downstairs to the 8th floor (ARCH-Stacks). Locate a book in the stacks about your architect. Record the title of the book and the LC call number. Hint! Remember that the LC call numbers in the Reference collection can be used to find similar books in the stacks. Make your way to the shelving area where you will find books that discuss special classes of buildings, NA4100-NA8480. In this area you will find books about churches, domestic architecture (houses, apartments), public buildings, etc. Take some time to walk up and down the aisles, paying particular attention to the titles of the books. Find a book on a particular type of building that interests you. Record the title and LC call number for the book. Current & Bound Periodicals

Head back up to the 9th floor and find the current and bound periodicals area (ARCH-Periodicals). Take some time to look at all of the current journals that the Architecture Library subscribes to (loose issues). Write down the names and call numbers for two journals that you like. Digital Images You will need to use a computer to complete this question. Navigate to the Architecture Research guide -guides.library.ttu.edu/arch - select the Images tab. Select Architecture Image Collections – Architecture Illustrations. Search for images of Andrea Palladio’s Villa Rotonda. Select one image and print the image and descriptive information page; attach print-out to this assignment. Navigate to ARTstor, search for images of Palladio’s Villa Rotonda here. Download the image and image information (two files) and print each; attach print-outs to this assignment. Hint! Remember that you will need to register for a free ARTstor account in order to download and save images.
