CD Review.......WRAPPED UP AND READYThe Mannish BoysDelta Groove
As weve come toexpect from theMannish Boys, heres anothercavalcade ofaccomplishedblues artistspumping out a setof superbperformances foryour listeningenjoyment.Overflowing withtalent from allsides, the MannishBoys and their
guests feature eleven vocalists, including Sugaray Rayford,Candye Kane and Trenda Fox. On guitar, Kirk Fletcher, FranckGoldwasser, Kid Ramos, Monster Mike Welch, Laura Chavez,Steve Freund and Nico Duportal take turns displaying theirtalents. Randy Chortkoff, Kim Wilson, Bob Corritore and JacobWalters Huffman spice things up on harmonica. With JimiBott and guest Dave Kida on drums, Fred Kaplan and RichWenzel on piano and organ, Ron Dzuibla on sax, and Willie J.Campbell and Bill Stuve on bass, theres enough talent on thisCD to fill two or three albums with solid, enjoyable tracks. Theenergy level stays at the maximum from beginning to end. The sixteen songs vary from swing to a soaring Blues forMichael Bloomfield, each one a winner. After Sugaray andMonster Mike grab you on the opening track (I Aint Sayin, written by Welch), youll find a few interpretations of well-known classics (Ike Turners I Idolize You, Magic SamsShe Belongs to Me, and Roy Browns Everythings Alright)interspersed among some great numbers written by Chortkoffand other bandmembers. The musicians are all soaccomplished, and the Delta Groove production team is sogreat that they cant help but put out another excellent release. They make perfection seem so easy. Seven albums and stillgoing strong. ~ DM
