Opening Prayer Father Peter Taylor
Almighty God, we gather today to remember and pray for Pat. For those who are here, Pat was a husband, father, grandfather, family member and friend. Pat was
called to serve you in his youth and vigor as well as in his time of illness and decline. Now that he is freed from the difficulties and frailty of this life, give him a place of refreshment, life and peace and lead him to eternal life through Jesus Christ your
Son who was raised from the dead, to be with you and the Holy Spirit, our God for ever and ever.
All: Amen
First Reading – Timothy 4: 6-8 Read by Alice Drabsch
A Reading from the Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy
As for me, the hour has come for me to go The time is here for me to leave this life.
I have done my best in the race, I have run the full distance,
I have kept the faith, And now, the prize of victory is waiting for me,
The crown of righteousness, which the Lord, The righteous Judge, will give me on that day,
And not only me, But all those who wait with love, For Him to appear.
This is the Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God
Responsorial Psalm – The Lord is my Shepherd Read by Ruth Quirk
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures, where he gives me repose.
Near restful waters he leads me, to revive my drooping spirit.
Response: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
He guides me along the right path; he is true to his name.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness, no evil would I fear.
You are there with your crook and your staff;
with these you give me comfort.
Response: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
You have prepared a banquet for me, in the sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil; my cup is overflowing.
Response: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me
all the days of my life.
In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell, for ever and ever.
Response: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, Alleluia! Happy are those who have died in the Lord;
Let them rest from their labours for their good deeds go with them Alleluia.
The Gospel according to John Read by Father Peter Taylor
Father Peter: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
All: Glory to you O Lord
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Trust in God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house,
If there were not, I should have told you, And after I have gone and prepared you a place,
I shall return to take you with me; So that where I am you may be too.
You know the way to the place where I am going.’ Thomas said: ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going,
So how can we know the way?’ Jesus said: ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.
No one can come to the Father except through me.’ This is the Gospel of the Lord
All: Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

Final Farewell & Commendation Father Peter Taylor
Trusting in God, we have prayed together for Pat, and now we come to the last farewell. We take comfort in the hope that one day we shall see Pat again and
enjoy his friendship. Although this congregation will disperse, God will gather us together again in the joy of his kingdom. Therefore, let us console one another in
the faith of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Father Peter: Saints of God, come to his aid! Hasten to meet him, angels of the Lord!
All: Receive his soul and present him to God the most high
Father Peter: May Christ, who called you, take you to himself; May angels lead you to Abraham’s side.
All: Receive his soul and present him to God the most high
Father Peter: Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
All: Receive his soul and present him to God the most high
Prayer of Commendation Father Peter Taylor
Into your hands, Father of mercies, we commend our brother Pat in the sure and
certain hope that, together with all who have died in Christ, he will rise with him on the last day. We give thanks for the blessings, which you bestowed upon Pat in his life; They are signs to us of your goodness and of our fellowship with the Saints in Christ. Merciful Lord, turn towards us and listen to our prayers; open the gates of
paradise to your servant and help us who remain, to comfort one another with assurances of faith, until we all meet in Christ and are with you and with our
brother forever. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
