Library Building Updates

CHILDREN’S & PARENTS’ SERVICESThe Children’s Room has recovered from the flood! We’ve heard your suggestions; come and see our new and improved space.

CARNEGIE LIBRARYOver the last few years, the Carnegie Library building has been: advocated for, saved, moved, the recipient of donated land, moved again, gifted to the Patchogue-Medford Library and graciously funded by those who remember signing up for the first library card on Lake Street.

With all of these monumental accomplishments spearheaded by the community, the last several months may have appeared anticlimactic. Please be assured that the Library Board and staff have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to begin the final step - the actual renovation.Temporary electric has been installed, and the initial demo has begun. Soon the building will begin to see more obvious “action”, as the weather clears and we start on the roof. As things begin to move a bit more quickly, we’ll start weekly updates at www.pmlib.org. As always we welcome feedback, and if you have any questions or concerns please let us know.

WANTED! Boys and Girls in grades 2-5 who are not camera shy! We need you to help us spread the word to your classmates about just how much fun it is to join the Summer Reading Club by participating in our promotional video. Please call the CAPS desk by May 1st.

April is Financial Literacy MonthMoney for Life: Get Help at PMLWe are thrilled to announce that Patchogue-Medford Library has received a grant to provide our patrons with high quality programs and unbiased educational resources about money management, personal finance and investing. We will offer materials, both in print and online, and various workshops for people of all ages in all stages of life. Children and teens will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities that involve saving, spending and sharing money, and adults can learn the ins and outs of finance from unbiased professionals on a variety of topics. Our hope is to connect you with the information resources that meet your needs, and help you feel empowered to make educated choices for both long-term investing and day-to-day money matters. Check out one of our upcoming workshops (marked with a dollar sign), or stop by to let us know how we can help you take the next step in achieving your financial goals.

All programs are made possible by a grant from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation through Smart investing@your library ®, a partnership with the American Library Association.

Elizabeth (Betsy) Ambrosio KennedyThe library has always been an important institution in my life, from the Summer Reading Program as a child to the countless college papers I wrote using the assistance of the reference section. The comfort I have felt in the library amongst the books played a huge part in my decision to become an English teacher as well.

Now, as a home owner and parent in the district, I am excited at the chance to make a dream a reality by becoming part of the Library Board. I hope to improve the Library and its programs to better serve the needs of our community.

The Friends of the Library will be sponsoring a Candidate Forum on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:30 pm following the budget hearing.
