Participation Agreement for Tartan Theatre

Actor Responsibilities – Readiness, Respect and Teamwork are all interconnected. They are key themes

we extend to and expect from our participants.

Readiness: Musical theater and performance is a team "sport.” Attendance and full participation at every rehearsal,

for the full rehearsal time and every performance is of critical importance. Please do not schedule any

appointments during our practice and performance times. If an EMERGENCY occurs, please contact the

appropriate staff member as soon as possible. You will be informed as to which staff member to contact

at the Meet and Greet meeting before rehearsals begin.

Attendance will be taken at every rehearsal. If you are more than 5 minutes late expect a phone call from

your production staff. During performances there will be a sign-in sheet posted in the green room. Every

performer is expected to sign in as soon as they arrive.

All participants are to remain in the theatre unless given specific permission from the Stage Manager or

Assistant Director.

All performers should come to rehearsals and performances ready to work. That means each person

comes appropriately dressed, script or materials in hand and all distractions set aside (this includes cell

phones, iPods, electronic games, etc.). Cell phones must be turned off during rehearsals (with the

exception of breaks).

We ask that the performer notify Tartan Theatre staff of any special circumstances or medical

requirements that may impact participation.

Each person is responsible to memorize his or her lines, music, choreography, blocking and cues as

quickly as possible. We expect each performer to practice and prepare their parts outside rehearsal as well

as at rehearsal. Of course there is time during the rehearsals to work on their parts with their scene groups.

It takes a tremendous amount of energy to participate in a large-scale production. We are very careful not

to schedule unnecessary rehearsals and only block the time required to stage the quality performance you

expect. Please try not to schedule large events or activities on rehearsal or performance days. Please keep

in mind your physical and emotion health during the run of the show. If you wear yourself out, it not only

impacts your performance but the quality of the whole show.

All conflicts were to be reported on your audition form. If illness or other unavoidable conflicts occur the

the staff needs to be informed immediately. There is a possibility that additional absences will impact

your participation in the show.

Respect Punctuality and readiness are crucial factors in keeping to the rehearsal schedule.

Focus and concentration during all rehearsals makes learning musical numbers and blocking much more

efficient and much easier. There will be specific break periods during rehearsals to let off steam and relax.

Actors should not try to correct or "direct" other actors. We are a team, let the director be the coach.

Also, we draws on the capabilities of others to support the production. Parent and student volunteers

come to help fill important roles. These participants deserve as much respect as any other member of the

staff.

Be respectful in your use of language, especially around younger actors. The older actors need to serve as

role models for the younger actors. We also will hold strict standards when it comes to inappropriate

public displays of affection.

Respect for Facilities, Costumes and Property:

Respect for other people’s property must also be demonstrated. If it is NOT YOURS...don't touch it!

We all are responsible for the condition of the theatre. All participants need to be respectful of the facility

and all furnishings and equipment. If irresponsible behavior on the part of a participant results in damage

to equipment or property, the participant will be expected to repair or replace the damaged item.

Food and beverages are only allowed in designated areas (mainly the green room and dressing rooms).

Only water is allowed in the theater/stage area.

We will provide costumes for your performances. In some instances you may be asked to supply pieces of

your costume yourself (mainly undergarments or shoes). When costumes are provided by Tartan Theatre,

it is the responsibility of the participant to take care of and return the costumes. The participant may not

change, substitute, or exchange costumes or costume pieces of their own or with other participants

without the expressed permission of the costumer and the director.

Please understand that if the participant's behavior during rehearsal is not appropriate, he/she could be

asked to leave the production without a refund of participation fees.

Teamwork: Teamwork is key to the success of Tartan Theatre. We require commitment and cooperation from

everyone involved – staff, performers and parents. With this opportunity comes an expectation for

behavior that must be maintained.

A main goal of the Tartan Theatre program is to put the best fit for a role in that role. Lead roles and

roles at all are not guaranteed to seniors, or anyone else for that matter. Each member of the cast is very

valuable to the show’s overall progress. Some members may be awarded a significant role while others

may not get what a parent would consider a “significant” role. Each student should have personal

improvement as one of his or her goals.

By being a member of the show, regardless of their role, a person can learn many valuable lessons.

Among them are the following: citizenship, teamwork, working together to meet team goals,

responsibility and commitment to team and school, loyalty, placing team above self, learning to accept

instruction and criticism, respect for others, self-control and being responsibility for one’s own actions.

For any high quality performance, we need complete focus by each participant and full team effort. Every

part is significant and important to the total performance. Superior or arrogant attitudes will not be

tolerated.

Failure to follow these rules, regulations and guidelines can jeopardize your participation in Tartan

Theatre. Persistent violations of these rules will result in disciplinary action. Discipline begins with

notification of parent or guardian. Consequences may include removal from numbers or dismissal from

the production.

Once you have accepted participation as a member of a performance, withdrawal or removal from the

production for any reason will not result in a refund of the participation fees.
