NEW ENGLAND MERCHANT'S BANK BUILDING,
Boston, Massachusetts
Tlie New England Merchant's Bank Building, completed in 1969, contains
approximately 600,000 sq. ft. of rentable office space. Designed by
architects Edward Larrabee Barnes and Emery Roth & Sons, this 40-story
building features a stone facade of pink granite and an expansive land-
scaped plaza.
Situated at the intersection of State and Congress Streets opposite the
Old State House, the site was an important part of the GovernmentCenter Urban Renewal Project and was awarded for development follow-
ing an Urban Renewal competition.
Financing for this project was arranged by Mortimer Zuckerman and
its development carried out under the supervision of Edward Linde.
Project control and financial reporting were the responsibility of Donald
Augustus.

The 41-stoi-y Boston Company Building was completed in late 1970.
Located at the corner of Wavshington and Court Streets, it is the homeof many distinguished Boston firms including die Boston Safe Deposit
and Trust Colnpany. Designed by architects Pietro Belluschi and EmeryRoth & Sons, die building's most notewordiy features include:
A dramatic facade of bronze -colored aluminum and
tinted glass.
Tapering corner columns.
A unique structural system allowing column-free
office space on all floors of the 800, 000 sq. ft.
building.
The building provides for enclosed pedestrian connections to the MBTArapid transit system and an adjacent 600 car garage.
Edward Linde had direct responsibility for die planning, construction
and marketing of the Boston Company Building, wliile Mortimer Zucker-man was responsible for land acquisition and project financing. To-gether they played the major role in conceiving the project and in
structuring its economic aspects. Budget and cost control were per-formed under the supervision of Donald Augustus.

THCIIN-QLOGY SQUARECambridge, Massachusetts
Technology' Square is a master-planned office/research center com-pleted in phases during tlie period 1960 to 1968. Consisting of four
buildings grouped around an attractive landscaped plaza, the develop-
ment contains over 560,000 sq. ft. of rentable space. Tliis development,
which was in part located in an Urban Renewal area, won tlie WardMelville Silver Medal for Community' Development presented to the City
of Cambridge in acknowledgment of the Center's excellence.
Tlie programming, financing and leasing of this development were car-
ried out under die supervision of Mortimer Zuckerman, while EdwardLinde participated in its planning and construction. Accounting and
project control were the responsibility of Donald Augustus.

MARINE MIDLAND CENTERBuffalo, New York
The Marine Midland Center is a comprehensive master -planned develop-
ment located on a ten acre Urban Renewal site in downtown Buffalo, NewYork. To be completed in several phases, the project will contain:
One 40-story and one 20-story office tower
200, 000 square feet of low-rise office space
Two levels of underground parking
Ancillary retail and service facilities.
Construction is under way on the first phase of the project with comple-
tion scheduled for 1972.
The developer was selected following an Urban Renewal competition.
The successful Urban Renewal submission and the program and design
for the project were prepared under the supervision of Edward Linde.
Mortimer Zuckerman was responsible for devising a financial structure
for the development and for arranging the project construction financing.

WALTI^AM OFFICE CENTERWaltham, Massachusetts
The Waltliam Office Center is a three -building suburban office develop-
ment containing approximately 130,000 square feet of rentable area.
Located at the intersection of Route 128 and Winter Street, the project
offers tenants tlie convenience of a modern office building in an attractive
suburban setting.
The programming and financing of this project were the responsibility of
Mortimer Zuckerman and its planning, construction and marketing were
supervised by Edward Linde.

This modern 320-bcd hospital was completed in September 1970. It is
a 10-story, masonry, steel framed, air conditioned and fire-proofed
building, containing a gross floor area of approximately 148, 000 squarefeet. Valtz & Kimberley, Inc. were tlie architects who designed the
building.
The basic medical care concept of diis hospital is to provide a level of
care to meet the needs of patients beyond the acute stage of an illness,
widi emphasis centered on rehabilitation. Tliis specialization allows the
facility to operate at a lower cost than is possible in the general hospital.
The hospital is strategically located within tiie Boston City limits to
serve the ever increasing needs of Boston's many hospitals.
Financing for this facility was arranged by Mortimer B. Zuckerman andsupervision during the final stages of development including control of
the construction, equipment and initial operating budgets was the res-ponsibility of Donald Augusms.

Mitchell- Lama apartments, commercial space, community facil-
ities, public park and recreation facilities.
Two high-rise towers of simplex apartments occupy the corners at
23rd Street and 1st Avenue and 23rd Street and 2nd Avenue with
lower scale duplex units between and flanking the towers. Shops
occupy grade level spaces with parking below grade. Towards the

center of tlie block there is access to a large urban plaza wdiich
links the two phases of tlie project across 24th Street and is acces-
sible to the surrounding community.

The apartments arehoused in two towers at opposite corners of the
site with tlie commercial space and school between. An access
bridge spanning the Major Deegan Expressway and the Penn Central
tracks allows for pedestrian and vehicular circulation to the sur-
rounding community and opens the park and river to this area of
the Bronx,

Central Chilled Water Plant: This facility contains tiie chillers,
pumps, piping and cooling tower for die entire campus chilled water
supply. Strategically located at the main entrance to the campus,
the design assumes a low profile to avoid competing with the academic
structures seen in tlie distance. A roughly eliptical steel dome cov-
ers tlie machine room and rests on an earth berm. The berm, which
slopes gently to blend witli the surrounding landscape, continues to
form an enclosure around die cooling tower.

Initially, tlie program requirements for all science facilities were
studied and the Science Complex Site Study was developed, determin-
ing the present and future needs of the University's six science
disciplines. A Biology-Psychology Building of 225, 000 sq. ft. and
a Science Library of 52,000 sq. ft. are currently under construction.
Future expansion will occur in two stages, providing an additional
600,000 square feet. Tlie facility is designed to link together under
cover all the currently separated science facilities. At the sametime, the internal circulation is organized so as to provide for pro-
tected travel from a major parking area to the other academic
facilities on the campus.
