Research Questions
How do mobile people:• reconfigure their networks to stay connected
with close ties that are far away• fabricate a network of local ties
• and combine local and distant ties in a personal network on which they can rely for
different kinds of support?

Preliminary Conclusions
• The frequency of use of different media with an alter indirectly indicates the strength of the relationship. [Degree]
• However, for this case multiplexity is slightly negatively correlated with f2f contact. [Multiplicity]
• On the other hand, multiplicity of alters with usual f2f contacts is lower than usual. [Duration of the tie]
• Local insertion seems affected by institutional context, previous experiences of mobility and rate of change in the relational community.
Preliminary Conclusions• Maintaining strong links through SNS and Voip is a
peculiarity of mobile people.• Phone and email seem to be use to reinforce
strong links, while SNS and Voip are more an alternative when f2f interaction is less usual.
• SNS is used actively by temporal students to maintain contact, mainly with distant ties, whereas is not used when there exist relevant support in the context of personal visits and travel.
