Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
For January, I wanted to share with you my Christmas Eve communion message: After the death of his wife, C.S. Lewis wrote: “Where is God? When you are happy
and turn to him with gratitude and praise, you will be—or so it feels—welcomed
with open arms. But go to him when your need is desperate, when all other help is
in vain, and what do you find? A door slamming in your face, and a sound of bolt-
ing and double bolting on the inside. After that, silence.”
As if to say: Where are you God? Why did this happen? Why don’t you speak to
me? And in return, there is only silence.
Christmas is for us all, but especially for those who feel despair, loss, longing for
hope...lost in the darkness. The prophet Isaiah wrote: “The people walking in dark-
ness have seen a great light; On those living in the land of deep darkness, a light has
dawned. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given.”
To us all, stumbling in the darkness of sin, Christ comes. To us all, Christ comes to
shine in the darkness and show us God. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords came
down to deliver us from darkness and silence. He came as the man Jesus Christ.
God has not been silent, but has spoken definitively to us in his Son, Jesus Christ.
You are not left in the darkness. You are not left without hope. You are not left in
the silence.
In the darkness, God speaks his Word. In the darkness, Christ comes among us as
Immanuel. And because of this, we have hope. Because of this, we have life.
“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. The true light that gives light to
everyone was coming into the world.” (John 1:4-5)

Prayer is an important part of our congregational life. We would like to be more intentional about those we place on our "prayers & praises" list by refining the list each month. Beginning each month, we will ask for your feed-back if those we are praying for need to be continued. We will add or refresh the list each month. Please use the white Welcome Card in the pew pocket to add names of those you would like included to our prayer & praise list and place the card in the offering plate, or call the church office.

Corn Bags
Sue Raines made some corn bags again this year and they can be found in the fellowship
hall. A variety of sizes to be used for a vari-ety of uses. If kept in the freezer use for sprains, headaches and back of neck in
summer to keep cooler.
When heating in the microwave for no longer than 1-2 minutes and use to back or
neck pain etc. When not in use, keep in the freezer and don’t get them wet.
A donation of $5.00 each is given to the First Christian Church.
Worship on snow days…
Our Church Board has often affirmed the intention of the church to provide a worship experience even on days when there is snow on the ground and driving is tricky. Our intention remains the same.
If our community has lost power and there is no power at the church for lights and heat, only then will we cancel worship for the day. All of our members are encouraged to use their best judgment in deciding whether or not to travel to attend worship!
