ISLAMABAD, May 5:
Pakistan's Supreme Courttoday set up a high-level six-member Joint InvestigationTeam (JIT) to probe PrimeMinister Nawaz Sharif and hissons' alleged corruption in thePanama Papers case.
A three-member panel ofjudges reviewed the names sub-mitted by various departmentsthat had been ordered to do soby the apex court's April 20 ver-dict in the case.
The JIT is bound to com-plete the probe in 60 days unlessit is granted additional time.
The court appointedAdditional Director FederalInvestigation Agency (FIA)Wajid Zia as the head of the JIT.
Other members comprising theJIT were Brigadier KamranKhurshid from MilitaryIntelligence, Amer Aziz from theState Bank of Pakistan, BilalRasool, an executive director at theSecurities Exchange Commissionof Pakistan (SECP), Irfan NaeemMangi, a Director at the NationalAccountability Bureau (NAB),and Brigadier MuhammadNauman Saeed from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The Secretariat of the JITwould be housed in the buildingof the Federal Judicial Academyhere and the court also orderedthe federal government to pro-vide all necessary funds for theJIT to carry out the investiga-tion, including an initial amountof Rs 20 million.
"The JIT would also be at lib-erty to utilise the expertise avail-able in their departments and anyother department of the federal orprovincial Governments as andwhen required by it," according tothe court order.
The JIT is empowered toengage and associate with localand foreign experts to facilitatethe investigation and for the col-lection of evidence.(PTI)
