Schools Work Plan Seminar 2018
What we can do to transit into a world that is very different?
As Mr Ong has said we need to “ensure that our education continues to uplift lives & prepare our young for the future.”
WHAT DO OUR CHILDREN NEED TO THRIVE IN THE FUTURE?
VALUES
For example:
• Resilience
• Integrity
• Care
21ST CENTURY COMPETENCIESFor example:
• Global awareness
• Inventive thinking
• Communication
STRONG FOUNDATIONFor example:
• Literacy
• Numeracy
• Social-emotional core
• Over the years, MOE has been shifting to nurture well-rounded
individuals by moving away from an overemphasis on academic
results and providing opportunities for students to discover and
develop their strengths and interests. The PSLE changes are part of
this larger shift.
THE PSLE REMAINS A USEFUL CHECKPOINT
It gauges the level of students’ learning in the core subjects at the end of six years of primary school and guides his future choices.

Some suggested ways Parents are encouraged to allow your child to attempt the
homework on their own. Guide your child, but do not do their homework for them.
Provide structures for students to develop good habits that support independent learning such as teaching them to jot down their homework and packing their bags.
Always work with your child’s teachers first as they are the ones who know your child well.
Train your children to be able to relay information to their teachers & vice versa.

Direct Schools Admission (DSA)
Support holistic development of your child.
Allow your child to discover anddevelop his/her interests andtalents.
Your child can continue to develop his/her strength in the secondary school which offers the distinctive programme.
DSA allows students to seek admission to a secondary (sec) school based on your talents, potential & achievements that cannot be demonstrated at PSLE.
You may go to https://beta.moe.gov.sg/dsa/ to find out more about the strengths & distinctive programmes sec schools have to offer.
New single centralised DSA application portal. More will be shared when your child is at P6.
• Change in class size: 30 (in P2) to 40 (in P3)
• Therefore, there is a need to re-organise the students andthis process will take reference from a range of observationsand assessments of your child, on areas which includemastery of knowledge and skills and learning dispositions.
• There are merits of a both being in a diverse group and amore homogenous group.
