Sunday Reflection Every year the first two Sundays of Lent
present the whole gamut of
human existence, the whole
range of the history of
salvation. On the first Sunday
of Lent the temptation of
Jesus recalls the temptation
of every human being
since the beginning. On this second Sun-
day of Lent the transfiguration of Jesus
holds out the transformation in glory
which is the goal of every human hope.
The transfigured Jesus, however, models
not only the goal of the Christian but also
our ongoing life. The passage forms a
fitting climax to the instruction on
discipleship which immediately precedes
it (Luke 9:23-27). First of all, Luke
emphasizes that Jesus’ transfiguration
took place “while he was praying,” an
action integral to Christian life (cf. Luke
18:1) Secondly, he speaks with Moses
and Elijah concerning his exodus, his
transit to the Father , through death,
resurrection, and exaltation, which is
announced in the first passion prediction
(Luke 9:22). The disciples also are called
to take up the cross and follow Jesus in
order to arrive at life. Then they will see
the glory of the Son of Man and of the
Father (9:23-27). This appearance is a
foretaste of that glory. Finally, at the
transfiguration the voice from the cloud,
heard at Jesus’ baptism, is heard again,
this time commanding, “Listen to him.”
The disciples are those who “listen to the
word of God and keep it.”
Thus we see in the transfigured Jesus both
the goal and the way. We must not
confuse the one for the other. The
transfiguration marks only a temporary
halt in the journey to Jerusalem, only a
pause in this exodus. We who follow
Jesus must continue to the end,
strengthened by the glorious hope to
which we are called.

THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU!
Haven’t been to Confession in a while? Interested, but
worry you don’t remember how to make a good
confession? Visit http://diopitt.org/light-you-1 for
FAQ’s, a short guide to confessions, reflections and
more. Confessions will be available on Wednesday,
March 9 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm in every Catholic parish in the Diocese.
Due to Wednesday evening Mass, Holy Sepulcher will have
confessions from 6:00-6:45 pm, Mass from 7:00-7:45 and confessions
again from 7:45-9:00 pm.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
During the season of Lent, we will have Eucharistic
Adoration on Wednesdays (March 2, 9, 16 and 23)
from 9:00 am - 6:45 pm. Each Lent we are called to reflection, prayer,
penance and fasting. Eucharistic Adoration is an opportunity for us to spend
time with Our Lord in quiet prayer, meditation and adoration. Also, some
additional ways of prayer and reflection available at Holy Sepulcher to
enhance our Lenten journey are Daily Mass and Stations of the Cross.
The Lord invited us to come be in His presence and spend time with him.
40 Days for Life Have you signed up for “40 Days for Life” yet? We need volunteers to stand with us at the Planned Parenthood abortion facility on 933 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA on Fri., March 18 between the hours of 11:00 am - 3:00 pm to represent Holy Sepulcher in this important ministry. Some people pray the Rosary; others pray silently; some groups like to sing; others remain silent. We will provide signs to hold. When you pray at a ”40 Days” vigil, your witness serves as a beacon of light to the women going into the abortion center, to the workers inside the building and to the people walking or driving by. This witness can start a dialogue that can save a life - a dialogue that cannot happen if you not there. For more information, call Debbie Busin at 724-510-8670 or Gretchen Cararie at 724-898-2529.
FROM FATHER BOB
On Saturday, February 20, forty-one second graders from our Parish School and Faith Formation Program received the Sacrament of Penance for the first time. In doing so, they took their final and most important step in their preparation to receive First Holy Communion shortly after Easter. I met with each class over the past few weeks and discussed with them the importance of this beautiful sacrament in which their sins will be washed away and forgiven. In a real sense, the children who made their first Reconciliation remind us during this season of Lent that each of us are unfortunately marked and affected by sin. Nevertheless, the loving forgiveness of Jesus Christ is always present and offered to us in a most profound way in the Sacrament of Penance, which Christ Himself instituted on Easter Sunday (John 20:23), so that His ministry of mercy would continue until the end of time.

EVENTS AND NEWS
PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF MERCY
Lord Jesus Christ, You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that
whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and
Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking
happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Para-dise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that
you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible fa-ther, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after,
loved, and forgiven by God. Send you Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,
and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with Father and the Holy Spirit for
ever and ever. Amen.
